Just a thought. Would it be an economical or logical idea to get a small AC unit that can fit inside a tower to cool the inside? Could you even power it off the power supply? I might be turning psychotic but if this works, I am willing to give a crack at it.

Sounds like a cool project. Be interested in seeing it when finished.

You could also get a bigger AC unit and use it to cool the core. The cool air that is wasted would probably be plenty to cool the case.

Just my $0.02.

I assume it's possible to rig one of these to power off of the power supply? I'm planning on getting a 400w or higher brand name one, should that be sufficient?

Those solid state air chillers are just multi peltier/hsf units. That biggest one looks like 12 of them, and draws 5 amps at 120 volts...I sure don't want to ask how much they cost!

I found a DANFOSS BD35F compressor that runs on 12/24 volts at 40 watts 3.3 amps, depending on the evaporator. It's width 220, height 160, depth 220 mm. That's about as small as you get. That's a little too much for a psu, unless it's a bigun.
Besides, you want the compressor up and running before the cpu powers up, so a second dedicated psu would be better.

Hers's another site that offer's eletronic cabinet AC's, http://www.melcor.com/ssair.htm
Based on TEC's these units are $$$$$$$. Try here if you want to play around with Tec's they offer second hand units removed from equipment with or with out heatsink's, at a fraction of the cost, they are low wattage but cheap for expiermenting. http://www.meci.com

Thanks. Exactly what I was looking for. I'll check the prices out, see how much of a shocker they are.

Condensation a problem with these suckers?

Condensation is going to be a problem whenever you go under room temperature. All air contains moisture, cooler air holds less. As the air from your room goes through the case, normally the air gets warmer -- no problem. If you have an AC unit, the air will get cooler and you'll have condensation.

Cool the room? A dust free room running at sub-zero temps. Ok, well running at 60 F. Like the router room in my high school. Extreme air circulation keeps the air cool and clean. Time for AMD to make mobo powered, self cooling cpu's....
