I've noticed a few people out there are using the VH6-II, I've tinkered with a friends VH6 in the past (wasn't the greatest board, wasn't aweful either). I'm just wondering if the VH6-II is a nice board, any real improvement over the VH6?

The main difference is the chipset is different[694] and it supports umda 100 instead of 66. you can set your fsb up to 200 instead of 150 but you can only set your CV to 1.9, also soft menu 3 instead of 2. I think that [cv] is holding me back from reaching higher then 1248 on a 1gp3 I'm stable in windows and Seti @ 1248 [running very cool with coolermaster lapped with radioshack compound, ducted hsf to outside case air, fan on back of MB. 2 case fans. 1in1out. but when I play Delta force land warrior I get a small error window that says sytdmp text saved? I have sideband disabled in registry, I have a p2slot hsf cut down to fit my chip on MB, i'm still burning in [about 2 weeks now] and hope I can go higher or get complete stability @1248 I have posted here in the forum trying to find out how to raise CV but no replys yet, if you think there is another answer to getting video game stable please let me know.

I have a VH6-2. It is in disuse right now because I couldn't get it to POST after a week of use. I think I got a virus that reflashes the BIOS. Anyway, when I had it running, I liked it. I hope to get it up soon to add a 3rd rig to my network.

So the Vcore goes up to 1.9V on the VH6-II? If my memory serves the VH6 only went up to 1.8V, so the VH6-II must have an upgraded voltage regulator.

If you need anymore than 1.9V you might want to download the voltage regulator specs and figure out where to solder the wires to add a trimmer for extra voltage.

Any stability problems?

I'm using and old (693 northbridge) Abit VA6, and am considering upgrading to something better. I can't remember if the VH6 had a VIO adjustment, does the VH6-II? God knows I could really use the ATA100 and 4x AGP :)

Well the CV on the VH6 is 1.9 so I do not think a change was made there i'm sure about this unless your friends MB was different, As far as stability I'm at 165fsb rock solid [after burning in for 3 weeks] and thats playing video games seti is stable at 166 but not video games 167 windows is stable but not seti or video games. 168 will boot windows sometimes and run stable. Do you think burning in longer will get me a little more stability @ higher fsb settings or is this a matter of CV? I am a newbie but a fast learner so please forgive me but what is a VIO adjustment? if it is controling the CPU speed to AGP I don't think there is but if you find out different let me now . as far as my CV you said a trimmer is this something like a varible resistor? [adjustable]

Well usualley in electronics when something begins with V it means its a voltage. And IO or I/O stands for input/output, so VIO is input/output voltage. VIO is the current that goes to the input and outpins on the CPU's PGA, it also goes to the chipset and memory and the AGP card, all PCI cards, all ISA cards, all diskdrive ribbon cables, everywhere. Raising the VIO gives you more system stability, especially with elevated PCI busses. VIO will also let you run the memory a bit faster. VIO is good stuff(but dangerous if not used with moderation) as you can see. So does it have it (you might have to whip the manual out)?

Exactly, it's a variable resistor. There are many many Vcore hacks for SocketA motherboards. Adding a trimmer in just the right place will give you a variable Vcore control, and allow you to exceed the voltage regulators specifications. I havn't seen any Vcore trimmer hacks for Socket370 boards, but it is indeed very possible (I've looked at the specs of the voltage regulator on my VA6). Their is also the possability of Vidpinning you CPU to trick the MoBo in to delivering more voltage (if the voltage regulator is capable, which if it follows Intels specs it should). Also if the voltage regulator is capable of 1.9V to 2.05V you could "hot wire" it to the desired voltage. Their are a lot of ways to approach the "problem", but which is best for depends on what you want, and what your elecronics background is. Vidpinning is the easiest approach, I can give you a link if you wish (you could also surf your way their, it's on my website).

Just a note though:

I don't advise increasing the Vcore beyond 1.9V without the use of "extreme" cooling measures.

No I do not think this MB has vio settings. [i hope i'm wrong]Thanks for the info I just found what the meaning of vio was and came back to edit my reply and found your info [much better] :) Yes i would like a link as I have cooling under control now I have just finished installing a rather large hsf to my GF2mx, I cannot adjust my vio so cv is my only hope for higher fsb settings. I'm running very cool temps now as I have done quite few case mods, ducting, mb cooling fan, 2 case fans, 1 small hard drive fan, huge hsf for northbridge. at idle now i'm running at 59 degrees F ambient temp around 55. when its hot [ambient temp] i run no hotter then 86 under full load. also have Rain installed

thanks for your help

Well I'm downloading the manual to have a look see. I'll let you know if it does or doesn't (it may use dip switches or jumpers instead of a bios setting).

Thanks for your help

Nice article on vidpinning, I take it you have had quite a bit of succes doing this. I'll give it a try, one question.
Will there be new core voltage settings in my bios or will the changes be automatic?

good luck on vio settings

I would love to go out and buy extreme cooling but unless I get more cv I can't get the cpu hot enough to warrant more cooling. [hope i'll be doing something creative soon] :)

well I hooked up vss,1,2,3 for 2. volts and I have no changes still running 1.91cv so i'm not sure vidpinning can help maybe motherboard can only run 1.9. I also checked with CPU-Z and the program says 1.91. Bios says 1.9 is max still. any suggestions? I have wrapped fine wire [size of thin hair] 4 times around in a figure 8 pattern to be sure no contact with other pins. good news is I have not fried chip :) as i'm writing i'm still vidpin connected. I believe my chip is EB p3 here are some of the specs, costa rica SL4C8 3102A406 0841 also in bios VC goes from 1.3 to 1.9 in .5 increments and the manual I have is for vh6 and the vh6-2.

The combo of vss vid1,2 &3 produces 2.05volt on a Celeron does it produce the same voltage on a P3 or does it only produce 1.9v maybe?, I would guess at that was the maximum value the BIOS will show or take.

I just read a article in a post here that says you may have to bend pins over or cut them to get vidpinning to work with cco chips would this work for a eb? or maybe no matter what i do i'm stuck at 1.9 with my MB. oops im bad just learned that eb is still a cco. any help in getting me more CV ?
