Vid Pin Mod went well but...

I have a S478 P4 1.9 Williamette CPU on a Asus P4T-E motherboard. With the help of some individuals on this forum, I was able to perform the Vid Pin Mod to get the default voltage to 1.850 volts. However, I was expecting to get some increased voltage options through the BIOS since, the deault voltage is increased. Well, that did not happen. The only option in the BIOS is 1.850 volts. Does someone know a workaround for this?

Thanks,

Did you make sure that you are in jumper free mode? You won't see any different voltage options if you are using the jumper mode where you overclock via the dip switches. I've only used the dip switches to OC, but once you are in jumper free mode I believe you go into the bios and you should see more voltage options.

VaTechHokies,

I tried that and the only option in BIOS is 1.850 volts. Can you try it on yours and see if you get the same functionality?

Frank,
I'm at work right now, but I'll give it a try when I get home and post a response then. I think the big thing with the volt mod is this. When overclocking through the bios, you can't get the proper dividers for the PCI bus and AGP. You CAN however get them through the dip switches, as I am sure you know. Because you can't change the voltage when you are using the dip switches, this mod allows you to basically change the voltage while using the switches.

Have you tried overclocking via the switches? I have found it a LOT easier this way because all you have to do is flip a switch and you're done. If you don't have the table of the switch frequencies, I can post it now because I have this at work.

I hope this info can help

I have the list of dip swith settings from the P4T manual. I thought one of the 125 MHz settings was supposed to use the 1/4 divider. If we have the same list, there are two options for 125 but, they both have the same PCI settings. It looks like the dividers only apply to the 120 and 133 settings. Is this correct?

Thanks,

Frank,
I attached the settings that I have been using. It does list two settings for 125 FSB, but they are way out of spec. The spec for the pci but is about 33.5 and for AGP it is about 66.9 like the 100 FSB setting shows. If I were you, I'd try to pick a setting that is a lot closer to spec than 125 FSB which offers 41.7 and 83.3 which is way out of spec.

I am currently using the third 133 FSB setting which offers 33.4 and 66.8. I had it up a little higher at 136, but I decided the extra few degrees I picked up wasn't worth 50 megahertz extra like I was getting. Why don't you try the second 133 setting? Tell me what happens. Good Luck

VaTechHokies,

What were you able to find out on that BIOS setting. On mine, it will not display any higher than 1.850 volts.

Thanks,
