I want to WC my 6800 card to get it to run above 350/750 without wories. I have been looking at this block. I really cant afford a high end Danger Den or the like. I would like to water cool the mem also but I have found nothing under 90 bucks or so.

Also been looking at this from Zalman. Ram sinks are a little wimpy.

Thought of using my homemade cooler and some ramsinks. I did that on my 5900 @ 5950U speeds and all was fine.

Any ideas????

I'd recommend getting a Maze4 and some ramsinks. From what I have seen, the NV68/NV78 offer only marginal benefits over a core-only watercooling solution.

same recommendation- Maze 4 acetal with ramsinks. Look around. I bought my maze 4 acetal brand new from a guy on anandtech classifieds for only $40 shipped.

Thanks for the info.. I will pick up a maze 4 and some sinks. New question. Are there any copper sinks out there for vid cards? All I see are aluminum....

If you use the swiftechs peel off the thermal tape the come with and use a real thermal epoxy.

Thermal epoxy is just that, epoxy. It will not come off the ramsinks if you ever need to remove it (well it can, but you wont have any ram attached to the vid card after). I would suggested a quality thermal tape or some AS5 with a dab of superglue in a corner to provide a less perminent mounting solution.

what about the AS Adhesive?

oh and another vote for just getting a Maze4 and some ram sinks btw.

I currently use the Swiftech MCW-50 on an X800XT AIW. I plan to upgrade to an 7800GTX in February. This thread has been very helpful!

Question: What about the new MCW-55 swifty block? Maze 4 seems kinda more restrictive to me. I've searched for a head-to-head GPU blocks comparison like those in that are in abundance for CPU blocks, but to no avail.

I've been quite pleased with the MCW-50, and am looking forward to trying either the MCW-55 or, if convinced, the Maze-4.

Thanks!

AS adhesive is an expoxy and will cause a perminent bond.

MoreGooder,
I went with a maze4gpu since it seemed more tried and true, but I havent read much about the 55 block. Maybe if you get it you can let us know how it goes.

Ok, I'll get it and try it. Only problem with the block as it stands now is that it is sooooo thick that it will eat up a PCI slot next to the PCI-E slot. For SLI, that means 2 PCI slots become unusable.

I wonder if the Maze 4 the same way. Is it so thick that it prevents use of neighboring slots?

Sorry, I didn't mean to pressure you into buying it, i was just saying if you do get it let us know how it goes. The maze4 isn't too thick, I am at work right now or I would look up the specs for you, but I do know they make a low profile maze4 that would be a good thing for SLI.

Nevermind. I found it on Danger Den.

Reading..........

Done.

The Maze4 looks like a rather ancient concept for a block to me. I know that GPU's blocks need to be less restrictive due to the inherent 180 degree turn that the water must make, but this seems to me to be a block that doesn't have a chance at all of breaking the water boundary layer via turbulance. I think the MCW-55 would do a better job, just by looking at the design itself.

To remove the ramsinks set with thermal epoxy, can't you just stick the card in the freezer for 10 minutes and crack the sinks off? That's how I removed the core heatsinks on my video cards.

sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. Not worth the risk IMO. If you search these forums you'll find a few users who tried the freezer trick and ended up with a nice keychain.
