It would better if it would be explained waht that coupon deal is. The cupon is for upgrade for vista but there will few versions of vista. I assume that the coupon is locked to some amount, maybe amound paid for xp at the time. Then at the puchase of upgrade it will deducted from acutal cost. Another question is how do you redeem that coupon? Can you redeem that cupon from any online retailer that will be selling vista upgrade software or only when you purchase upgrade directly from microsoft.

Dam I thought it ment the whole operating system you could of put "VISTA Coupon with XP Home Edition" the titles misleading.

The upgrade scheme is directly tied to the version of XP that you purchase. Vista Ultimate is not available as an upgrade from any version of XP.

Are you sure? Last time I saw it was an upgrade for $259. Did they change it again?

yes, you can buy an upgrade to vista ultimate....just not with a coupon.

the coupon mess is going to be ugly. basically if you buy x version of xp then you get x version of vista or you can get a discount on y version. From there it gets sketchy. A major question that I would ask and I don't see an answer for is....

Will it be an OEM or RETAIL version? If I buy an OEM xp disc, will I get an OEM Vista as well? If the answer to this is yes then it sucks bigtime.

would the upgrade vers work good or is it better to get the full vers ?

Well, that is kinda the point I'm trying to make. If you buy an OEM version of XP and the coupon gets you an OEM copy of Vista, then you definitly want to go full version, since the OEM version will only allow you 2 major hardware upgrades.

Now if it gets you a RETAIL upgrade version, then it's fine and dandy.

As far as upgrade vs. full...That one is tougher. I'd say that upgrade version is fine, as I'm sure that it will be just like XP where it is basically the same version, just with a check for preexisting software before install.

either way it all comes down to OEM vs RETAIL for me(I want to use it for more than 2 systems for that type of cashola).

Found it on newegg illistrating that cupon deal

So the coupon is basically worthless, since you pay at least $20 shipping and handling in addition to sending more money.
Thanks, that is what I needed to see.
