 there goes the media again.

the first video was funny, untill you watch the 2nd one.

while the voice recognition isn't for me, and microsoft isn't my most favorite company, he proved tht it does work when controlling the desktop, selecting tabs and such.

again, the media decided to omit the part where the software actually worked, and decided to just show the flaws.

argg, there should be a LAW that states that the media must report the TRUTH, or at least ALL the facts.

but no, telling the truth is only a "policy", and is allowed to be broken without any legal reprocution, no matter who they hurt. ( and i'm serious, fox news got into a lawsuit agenst someone, the courts ruled that they are ALLOWED to lie to the public about well...anything ).

Same as zex, the 2nd vid shows the media being unbelievably childish. Who bets those presenters are just teleprompt readers and didn't have a clue about the story.

i doubt they are reading from tele..

but i wasnt trying to critize vista .. i jus thought it was kinda funny .. voice recogntion will be super huge in 5 years .. mark my words !!

oh, i don't doubt that for a second at all.

but there are ALOT of bugs to work out. Even though the media blew the incident out of proportion...the software STILL does have bugs in it.

ontop of that, there's ALOT of slang in english.

AND, people arn't going to want to say "comma", or "period", every time either.

Once those things are fixed THEN it will get main-stream.

but untill the software puts in the correct punctuation every time on its own, it won't gain a huge support base.

but, that WILL change. It will just take some time.

well i think the recognition software now is pretty decent.. in fact i wouldnt mind at all to have to say comma or period, etc... the fact of not typing is very cool..

anybody use recognition in xp now ???

reading all of their "adapting" lessons helped so much..also being consistent to your everyday voice and not your "reading" voice is important...

who knows .. maybe the guy needs to simply do more recognition lessons for the pc to react more accurate... hard to say ..

Here is it actually being used in average types of uses. Not in a enviroment that is probally years off.

While buggy and sluggish. No one has yet to perfect voice recognition in a large scale. I think it is a good attempt at least.

OK, this is not the first time that we have seen the first video.

That being said, am I the only person who noticed that the second video made the exact same mistakes as the first one did?

I have to call shens on the second video....

I think you missed the point. The media failed to show even one positive point of vista's voice recognition when, in fact, it worked fine for most of the demonstration.

i'm lost by your logic...

the natural conclusion would be that the 1st one was the media version, which was cut, and edited to make microsoft look bad.

the 2nd one was the full video clip, showing everything the media didn't show.

Maybe you saw the 1st video in the past, because this might not be new. it could be a little old. then again, i didn't look at any dates myself...

well its official ..

i think i may have sparked a voice recognition comparison thread. i will be comparing xp's voice recognition vs. dragon naturally speaking software. me and a few close friends i managed to talk into throwing down some cash for this are gonna purchase it.

if you buy 2 you get one free .. so thats about 66.66 bucks each ...lol

we'll see how well it works out .. man wouldnt that be cool to talk to the pc when replying to a thread ?? it would be even cooler if you could highlight text and have the pc read it back to you ... anyways it should be fun .

Already does this. Part of the accessibility feature for the visually impared.

Run | %SystemRoot%\system32\narrator.exe

That should fire off the narrator. It reads all the text on a page or selected text. IIRC

^

sucks .. i need something better to work with .. in fac im sure with some googling ill find a nice program

seems i hit a rough spot already .. i need to get a qaulity headset before anything else
