I have read in the past that there is a way to install a manual voltage control and the v chip on mobo's. I have a Soyo 6VBA and just bought a PIII 700E that will be in early next week. This board only allows a 10% max v adjustment. Does anyone know of a link or how to do this. I imagine I can look up the IC and figure out the pin-out but it would be nice if someone has done it before.....

You have a Slot 1 type motherboard. I have the Soyo SY-6BA+IV which is also Slot 1. I'm not too sure about adding a chip or modifying something on the board itself but the easiest, pain-free way to allow for voltage adjustments above +10% is to buy whats called a Slocket.

Here's a good link that discusses the different vendors and types:

You can manually set the voltage on your slocket to say...1.75 volts and then in your BIOS you can add 10% to the 1.75 setting instead of being stuck w/ 1.65. Hope this helps.

I looked at doing that.
Unfortunatly I bought a slot1 processor. I didn't want to spring for the extra $$ to get the FC-PGA and a slotket.

I guess I'll just have to see what I get.....

Thanks

Don't think your out of luck yet....There's a bunch of really smart people on this list. As the inside joke goes lately...I'll give your post a BUMP back to the top and someone a whole lot smarter then me should be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck.

I'm unfamilair with slot type MB and proccesors so i'm not sure if you could vidpin it or if this is even an option works great on a socket CPU if you do go to your pw management IC you will need to find the FB pin and put your pot on that pin. check out hardocp in the articles section and they have a article on the P IC mod maybe you will get lucky and find the same P IC as yours and then you will know which pin is the FB pin, it didnt work for me but you may get lucky and if not you can pick up on a few ideas about the mod. sorry i'm not much help on this one

The answer is-I am sure it is possible, and not sure of how. For the FC-PGA (socket) chips it is easier, the pins are exposed. The pins for the Slot-1 CPU are the same, but locating them is going to be problematical. It might be easier to tape a particular contact on the socket edge. Hmmm. You've got me thinking. I am going to download the datasheet and look at it. You should do the same. If we come up with something, let's share it with the rest of the board.

I'll do that. I'm sure there is a way. The voltage must be there somewhere in order for a slotket to be able to have the ability to adjust the voltage.

Thanks
