Hello,

I finally got my machine up and running.

I am also overclocking it (I think).

I am runing a ASUS MOBO with a p4 overclocked to 2.0 (not much I know). All I did was change the clock speed in the BIOS and the FSB was changed automatically. So I think I am overclocking it.
When I boot the machine it does say 2.0 instead of 1.9.

anyway...

One thing happans that is a bit strange. I have the ASUS MOBO monito runnign and occassionally the +3.3v thingy goes above 3.3. The software tells this is happening but only for a few seconds. All the while it says it is "OK".

Should I be worried.

if your 3.3 is only going a little above 3.3 you shoudl be fine.
mine is runnign at 3.46V as i type this...

So no you dont need to be worried....

do you know what motherboard you have?
1.9Ghz CPU's can usally go a fair bit higher that 2.0Ghz

Yeah it's a ASUS Motherboard
The Model is P4T-E

I put it at 2.1 but games like UT kept crashing on me. Whn I set it to 2.0 everything seems to be stable.

Maybe it's the game?

Any suggestions you can give are greatly appreciated.

Do you know what the +3.3V is anyway! Sorry I am a NOOB

By the way it just jumped to 3.6 then in 1 second went back to 3.2!

3.3V is you I/O voltage.....
Plus it powers other things also....
Upping it can help stability of overclocked Video cards for example.

2.1GHz not stable?
Know your temps? Have you incresed the voltage to the CPU?

the temp is well below threshold (according to the asus monitering software)

all I did was up the clock speed
the fsb speed automatically changed when i up'd the clock speed

should i up the voltage as well?

it is set to 1.75 (i think) thats the default setting.

please note I did NOT do any jumper setting changes all I did was make the changes in the "Advanced" section in BIOS.

Just because your software says 75C is safe, that doesnt make it true.... What are your temps?

Without knowing what your TEMPS are. Idle and 100% full load, i would say, DO NOT CHANGE your voltage. If your temps are too high that can damage your CPU.

68C is VERY HOT
i would say DO NOT CHANGE YOUR VOLTAGE
if you increse your voltage you are in serious danger of frying that CPU....
You will need more cooling for sure if you plan on overclocking that CPU any higher

68C?
that's damn high, don't worry it won't be fried even at 100C (i was stupid enough to find out ;) )

It sounds to me like you didn't put the thermalpad between the processor and the heatsink. Even the stock hsf is not this bad.

For now go back to default FSB and Voltage until you fix this problem.

youll find for overclocking 50c is pretty much my temp ceiling. 49 is as high as i'll let my cpu go before better cooling or backing off the o/c.many people dont lke over 45c, im happy with 49(its hot in fla)
of course, once i get h2o, that will be a diff story

DOH!

All I have is the heat sink. Which is rated to 2.0+ GH, and some Silicon (I think) goop I put on top of the procerssor. It kind of looked like caulk but much thinner (like paint). I spead that stuff on the processor (on the top ) and then clipped the heat sink on.

I guess I am missing something?

God I am such a NOOB!
