I have a have put togather system with a a VP6 -w- via apollo pro 133a, p3-1ghz and 2 sticks of Mushkin High Performance REV 3 cas 2 222 128MB, ati allinwonder128 pro video, netgear fa310tx, and a SB live value, 2 WD 40gig ata100's striped.
win2k is installed to a 12gig partition on the striped array. (the system is not overclocked) and is not having cooling problems.
the 1st time I installed win2k I forgot to install the 4 in 1 driver, I installed sound and
video drivers the system seemed to be running good. after creating another partition on the striped array. copied over some files and installed some applications, then rebooted.
at reboot chcdsk ran, it said it was "correcting error in index $130 for file 26"
and it mentioned a orphaned file index. It rebooted and was fine a for another 2 reboots
and then I rebooted to a blue screen with this error>
STOP c0000218 {registry file failure}
the registry cannot load the hive (file)
\systemroot\system32\config\software
or its log or alternative it is corrupt, abscent, or not writable.
no safe mode!
I reinstalled clean again. then I got the same errors again. Thinking the problem may be within the raid system I broke the array and moved a drive off
the hpt370 to IDE-0 and formatted and installed again, created another partition, copied some files over to the new partition. installed a few applicaitons and rebooted to the same registry error.
no safe mode
I double checked bios setting again and then formatted and reinstalled again. this time I installed the 4 in 1 driver immidietly. I was really hoping this was happening because I diddnt install the 4 in 1 driver.. after windows was installed. I shut down, then powered up and down a few times and at reboot I got a different error coming up to logon.
when the login box should have came up instead a message box appeared and said...something to the effect of I was logging in with cached information or something like that..
it said
"not enough storage is available to process this command"
"C: is corrupt and unreadable run chkdsk"
bu I was able to login..
I rebooted and got another error:
windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\winnt\system32\config\SYSTEMced
I installed win2k, once win2k was installed I installed the 4 in 1 driver, reboted, ok.
shutdown and rebooted again, ok. shutdown and rebooted, ok.
shutdown and rebooted and there is that damn error.....
error:
windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\winnt\system32\config\SYSTEMced
I found MS-KB article http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q269/0/75.ASP
"The System hive in the registry is damaged or missing. The System registry may be to large and cannot be loaded. This issue may occur when
something is writing too much data to the System subkey in the registry"
it showed me how to Use the Repair Console tool to replace the backup copy of the System hive from the repair folder which gets the system up and running again but then is corrupts again.
I removed the mushkin memory and put in a stick of 128mb PC133 out of a working machine and
formatted and reinstalled to the same error.
I put a different hard drive in, not on the raid and did a clean install and got the same thing.
I have tried moving periphial cards around. I have completely dissasembled everything
and put it back togather again. I have installed with just the video card and no other cards and get the same thing. I am suspicious that I may be missing something in the bios, memory settings or something.
I tried disabling 2nd level cache
I have went round and round with the for a few days and I am at my wits end and I am hoping that somebody has an idea what the problem may be.
Please Help!!!!!!!
