i havent done much to figure out whats the hold up is but right now my 800e cco wont go past 900. as a single i got a conservitive 1016out of her. like i said i havnt tryed the new chip on its own or got i broke in yet but anybody got some tips? also i have a realy cheap 300 watt ps. its a deer power supply that came with the 55 dollar full tower. it runs a 120mm,small squirl fan, gpufan, and the gorbs. is it taxed out?

yes the gorbs are on the cpus. i know its the in thing to crap on gorbs but when you step back, they rock for the money.besides the fans are 4600 rpm and quite. they are as i said cco chips so the cooling is even less importand. anyway the things im looking into are the fact that my new chip maybe slow or maybe my ps isnt good enough. ive read here that dually require a good ps and as far as i know mine aint:) anyone have any other places to check?

I would pull the original chip out and see what the second one does by itself. That will help rule out what the problem is, if it's the CPU or something else. And seeing the CPU is the most important part, we'll rule that our first.....

yup looks like one lame hoof. the new processor is not as good as the old one. im at 992 with it right now but it has show to be unstable. at 1.9v its reading 35c or 95f under full load(seti)

making some progress with her. now in the running dual im getting a stable 900 at less volts. so maybe there hope! ill keep breakin her in. wish i had a normal experience with my first chip to tell if i will be geting much more out of her. i could always unload her at school cheap

This is why I preach getting two chips from the same lot number, and no more that two numbers apart. You are almost gaurenteed to get the same overclock with sister chips be it good or bad.

I would see if you could sell those chips and buy two from the same lot. I prefer cC0 stepping. I have had good luck with mine.

I would also recommend ditching the orbs and getting some better heatsinks. FOP-38's are cheap and are fine for Intel chips. I run FOP-32's on mine and I've broke 1000 with both my chips on these.

where do you get chips off the same lot number? isnt that as much a shot in the dark as mixing them? i should hope you prefer cco chips cause there about 3 times better lol. what are you getting for idel and full load temps? are those the 7000 rpm fans? i do need more cooling im seeing that now cause if i shut of my side fan i crash in halflife at 920 almost instantly. the water cooling guys have straightened me out and i may be headed there

Where do I get my chips? I hand pick them. The first two 800's that I bought were different lot's. They also both did 1002, I just got lucky. But the two that I have now are from the same lot. The place that I bought them from (local) thought I was an idiot for wanting them from the same lot, but your expeirence is my justification. I ordered the original two online, and put a special request to have them from the same lot. They came and were different, I called them, explained the situation, and they took them back and crossshipped new ones. These ones were different also. I just took them....wasn't worth the effort seeing they both broke a Gig.

Nope, their the 4500 RPM 32cfm Global-Win fans. My temps are pretty low. I have excellent case cooling and a cold room. Heatsinks are lapped and I use ASII. My idle temps with the computer just sitting there waiting for the screen saver is usually around 80-85 degrees F, casual use usually takes them to around 90F, and if I punish it with Sandra I usually get around 100F to 110F. I have had it all the way up to 120F (fan filters clogged) and it was stable at 1002. Hehe, room got REAL cold this weekend and I had one CPU at 79 and the other at 78F idle. But after about 10 minutes my toes started to go numb.

Not bad for southwest Florida....

wow thats hot! now i know you cant use gorbs. here in vermont the weather is a little kinder to underpriviliged heatsinks especialy in the winter. i think ive reached a desision. im going to get a water rig and pelt the one crapy cpu. the radiator ive always wanted as it remindes me of my other hobby(motocross) and the pelt will hopfully be my $20 solution to a bum chip. im atcualy going to call becooling now with some questions. wish me luck!

oh ya one last question just cause im curious. what made you go with eb chips?

What made me go with EB's. Higher FSB. Plain and simple. Higher the FSB, the higher the bandwidth, the more 0's and 1's I can push through that chip. Higher FSB amounts to a higher memory bandwidth. Same thing.

If your going to watercool one CPU, do it to both. And seeing you have a motorcross background you might think this is a good idea.

I have an 85 250R 3-wheeler. Well, while trying to pass a buddy on his motorcycle he roosted me. One of the rocks put a hole in my left radiator. The right one was still good. I replaced both sides anyways. I still have the right one sitting here. I also have another VP-6 sitting here. I want to get a server case. I'm going to use that radiator from the 250,some 12V 120mm fans, and also use a big honkin holding tank. The radiator and the tank will take up the other half of the server case. I'm thinking that 250R radiator will work great. the lines are big, way bigger than the 1/2 tubing I plan on routing the coolant with. It will take sometime for water to circulate through that big radiator and I'm thinking should take it right back down close to room temp before it goes into the sump, cooling the submerged pump.

And if your going to watercool and pelt one chip, do them both. But still, I would see if you can offload both of those chips and get a matched pair, or at least two from the same lot.

no more questions but i just wanted to clear the fsb stuff up for you. its a little weird but both the eb and the e end up running at the 800 regardless of the input fsb as it runs into a multipler right as it enters. The difference being your multiplyer is 6 and mine is 8. so internally they run at the same clock of 800mhz. then with the vp6 you get the god sent option of running the ram clock at the host clock(fsb) or the host clock pluse or minus the pci clock. when overclocked to 1000 my fsb is 125 where yours is 166. thats an exelent clock to be going through your ram if it handles it(obviously yours does). on mine i have to use the host clock plus the pci to get the 156 witch is what i was gunning for with my kingmax pc150. the added bonus with my 100 fsb is that i was capable of going to 1080(good chip) for seti(no 3d) and get a ram clock of 168 witch thankfully the kingmax granted me. eb chips would have put me at 180 for a ram clock forcing me to use the -pci to get a 147 mem clock. i thought of using my spare radiator from my cr but if you see these new cube radiators every ones making youll love them. im just using one pelt on the dual water blocks as im going to try to run it on the same power supply. if i have to get a seperate ps then il definatly pay the 20 bucks for a second pelt

opps brain fart! the vp6 tops out at 170 fsb so disregard that last senario. on top of that i figured the pci clock out wrong for that one too!
