How long do you think it will be until fans have heatsinks and maybe someday their own slower fans?
Feeling each fan in my case reveals that they are about 35oC to the touch and these are just 3000rpm 80mm fans that use less than 2W, I can only imagine how warm the 92mm delta's get
 
Doing work always creates heat, whether it be in the hub of a fan, an IC or a bicep. If so much heat is created that it can't be drawn away by the mechanical system that created it, or a part of that system, it means trouble in River City.
The Athlon and offspring are an example of life on the edge, thermodynamically speaking. As long as the K7 family is run at spec, conventional forced air cooling is sufficient. Without much margin for error!
