In case any of you are having troubles with your Asus A7V here is what I found out.

I was using Bios 1005c just fine. My win2k server loved it (except for the promise 100ata, but thats a differant story).

Then I flashed to 1007, and bam, troubles.

Giants (by interplay) would freeze up.
Explorer would freeze when I booted.
My Sound blaster live value would have static when sitting idle.

My mb temps would go crazy. Ambiant temp 72F, MB temp 91F, cpu temp 120F.

I reinstalled everything, changed sound cards, tried with out sound cards.

Formatted and tried win98
Formatted and tried win98se

Still nothing.

So I flashed back to 1005c last night, stuck back in the w2k server hd and bam...

Perfect fix.

So if you are having troubles with your A7V mobo, flash back to 1005c and see if that helps.

Oh PS... after the flash back and using the same oc settings as before (7.5x, 110fsb, 149mem cas222) my temps dropped back down to 89F mb, and 111F cpu, with the same ambiant temps.

Does anyone have any insight as to why?

Further testing shows that.

With Bios 1007:

When I would increase the core voltage above 1.65 it would not reboot, this was not a temp problem.

With 1005c I can push it to 1.85 and it will still operate.

BUT all the 1005 bio's have one problem

cant set the perfomance section of the biops in OPTIMAL

you can set it but it wqont stay

i always used 1004d

in my opinion its the best of what they have to choose from !

You seem to be having another problem as for both of my A7V boards using 1005c will retain the Optimal switch.

The only REAL problem I have with 1005c is the promise controller and W2K server.
