Just chipping in my two cents worth - the amd XP/MP processors are 48 x 48mm if I remember correctly, and the blocks I milled were 50mm square, by 12.5mm thick. Milled a recess down one side to fit on the socketA release lever end (2mm recess) and it's fine. It's the clamps that you want to think about as well. I had to make my own because of the block design, and ended folding brass into a shallow U section to give it strentgh, then making srew holes with a three lug retention clip on each end that's screw adjustable.
