Waterblock weight

My block is on the heavy size (485.8g), but I don't think it's TOO heavy. I am still curious to know how heavy your blocks are.

Please post the weight of your CPU block, and whether you use a shim or not.

most people don't use shims with the slk-900 and it weighs alot heavier than any block on the market you've got no problem's unless you really f@#$ up when mounting

My block weighs about 2 oz. No shim.

its not the weight that really matters (most motherboards are installed vertical anyways) its the pressure you apply onto the cpu though socket clamps or the 4 hole mounting thing. Most clamp heatsinks are okey to use without a shim, but majority of waterblocks don't use clamps, but the mounting holes instead. With those, you could apply a lot of pressure on to your cpu, much more then a clamp would and sometimes apply it un evenly and crushing a corner of your cpu.

trust me, don't worry about the weight that much, because the actual pressure after mounting is something like 10 lbs (i think..).
and u should always get a shim for safty. 5 buck investment for your 1.4 tbird

Yeah, I'm not so concerned about the weight now, but before I machined some excesss metal off it was 565grams; Which I think is not entirely safe. And I already have a couple shims, but I might decide not to use it.

Geeze Graystar you have a feather-weight on your hands. Mine is 1lb and 1.1 oz.

I found the weight of the SLK-800; W/ OUT a fan on it, it's 505 grams. Wow, and that mounted on the 3 prong clip. Yeah, I think I'm safe.

when you mount it, just be careful not to put uneven pressure on the core.

Nice block graystar. Does the inside just have a pocket in it? and another piece soldered on to that w/ the fittings? What are your temps like?

I don't have a digital camera yet, just a scanner. So I won't have pics of my block till I'm done w/ my roll. Which will be after I take all the pics of my up and running WCed rig. I hope to have all the pics up no later than 2 weeks from today depending on how much time I have.

My latest block weighs in at 512g.....mounted straight to the mobo.
No shim for me thanks....just a little patience in mounting is all I need.
Id recommend that you put a NON CONDUCTIVE backing plate of some sort, on the back of the MB when you use the 4 MB mounting holes........I forgot to put one on my first 8RDA+(in a rush to test out my new creation), and the PCB cracked from the pressure and VIOLA........no screamin OC'er anymore(until I ordered another ,that is)

Just put the block in it, and scan it in 2D................Ive done it many times
