I actually needed that.
I waited a LONG time to post this reply. Mostly because I was so depressed over the weather and the fact that most of my work from the past five years remains just barely out of my reach.
Like I said... The y-cable came the day after my last post. Plugged it in. At first I was very hopeful. I could actually go into all the folders (which I couldn't do before).
But the second I actually tried to get data off the drive... it stalled.
No data recovered at all.
Looked up data recovery houses and was surprised to find a couple here in Marseille.
Haven't been there yet because I currently have a gigantic cash flow problem and a minor health crises. So I'm a bit more focused on those two issues at the moment.
At least my Yamaha seems to be rolling okayish.
