I was upgrading my CPU (from 1.4 tbird to a XP1800) and power supply (from a 300 wt antec to a 420 wt CWT) sounds simple right?? :D Well a couple wierd things happened that I still can't figure out. First off, I had installed the PSU, no problems there (Had it running for three days with no prob.). Then I got my CPU
I had already flashed the bios for xp compatability. When I installed the CPU I got no bios beep and a blank screen (fans where spining). So I cleared CMOS and achieved the same results. I then took the CPU back out to see if it was seated properly or if I had accidently smeared some ASII on the bridges.I wiped the whole thing down with nail polish remover and let it dry. I also noticed the the CPU sensor was hitting up against the CPU causing it not to sit right and possibly creating an ark between the two so I bent the sensor down a bit so the CPU sat flush. Ok, this is where things get wierd... I reinstalled it and powered on this time only some of the fans were spinning so I unplugged the PC and cleared CMOS again .When I plugged it back in even though I forgot to set the jumper back as soon as I plugged it in it turned on (once again not all the fans were spinning) no matter what position the jumper was in as soon as I plugged the PSU back in it did the same thing  . My next step was take out the CPU and put in the one of the computers I was building and try it .It worked flawlessly. Now I go on to the power supply I connected the PSU from the other pc to this one and now this one was running flawlessly as well. Ok? IT’S THE POWER SUPPLY!!!! Nope ...after running the computer under prime95 for a few hours with no prob I decided to try the bad PSU again .. It works great... I stressed it with prime95 over night with no errors.... I've also ran 3dmark 2001 multiple times in a row, restarted it about 12 times and its rock solid!! As you can see I have no idea what was wrong or how it fixed it’s self. There for I am left in utter connfusion…

hmmmm... that is very interesting. I think that whatever mobo your using (that is the one that it won't work in) just won't work with an XP chip, it could be a possibility. I would suggest trying to try another XP chip in that mobo to see if it will work.
