For all the claims that I'm allegedly a Sony operative thinly disguised, I never expressed any interest in owning the PS3. This is mostly because I don't actually care about Metal Gear Solid and I always felt the console was too expensive to be sitting on my desk.
Well my 360 is gone and there's a PS3 sitting on my desk right now, and I figured I'd delve a bit into the reasons why.
1. MY BEST FRIEND IN JAPAN WOULD NOT LEAVE ME ALONE
Have you heard of "A Whiter Shade of Pale"? "She said there is no reason/and the truth is plain to see/but I wandered through my playing cards/and would not let her be..." Yeah... it was kinda like that. I really REALLY didn't want a PS3. Matter of fact I was thinking of selling everything but my handhelds and using the money to buy new video equipment. But he just WOULD NOT shut up about it. He owns both systems but refused to buy any multiplayer games for the 360. Kind of a fanatic
2. People on Craigslist are fleeing Microsoft like Rats on a Burning Ship
Hell... people HERE on OCF are fleeing Microsoft... just check out the classified section. It was next to impossible to get the price I wanted for my 360 or a trade for a PS3. I'm pretty sure it would've only become more difficult in the coming months. This is set to be a HUGE year for Sony and everybody is starting to get wise
3. There will soon be a better, quieter, and cheaper 360 on the market.
By the time things really heat-up with GT5, MGS4 and all of Sony's heavy hitters this year, Microsoft is expected to drop it's 60GB system with the GPU and CPU shrink... at which point my 20GB system would've been practically worthless. Now I can just sit back with everyone else and wait for it.
4. $287
The cost of my PS3... There was something... "Unflappable" about that price... I sold my 360 and two controllers for $300... the PS3 cost me $287... It was refurbished... but $287... I could've gotten a new one with Spiderman 3 for $341... But just keep saying "Two-hundred eighty-seven dollars" to yourself over and over again... That's what cinched it... I got PAID to trade in my 360.
In the end it was mostly a business move and I'm glad I made it.
I also picked up Warhawk and a Blutooth headset. I have some interesting comments on PSN, wireless for the PS3, Warhawk, and online gaming on the PS3 in general... but I've got a birthday party to get ready for.
PS: I still have Forza and will take on Eliff Tymes when that new 360 comes out.
