I upgraded from :

AMD 64 4000+ @ 2.8 GHZ,
EVGA 7900 GTO (not OC'd)
Patriot 2 GB PC3200,
2 x 250 GB Raid 0
Win XP SP2

to the following:

Core 2 E6400 @ 2.4 GHZ
Abit AB9 mobo
EVGA 7900 GTO 512 MB (not OC'd)
Corsair XMS2PRO 2 x 1 GB (900 MHz)
WD Raptor 74 GB
Win XP SP2

My 3DMark06 score (@ 1280 x 1024) only increased from 5000 to 5700. Does this seem right. I would have expected a bigger jump, I realize I did not change the video card, but the CPU and RAM should have made a difference??

I'm a moderate gamer that plays Oblivion, Dark Messiah, FEAR etc.

Thanks

The RAM really isn't going to help your 3dmark score a whole lot. The CPU is what's boosting your score as 3dmark 06 utilizes dual core. That's about the jump I would've expected without upgrading your GPU. That chip and that video card are highly OCable from what I've read. You could probably pull at least another 2000-2500 points from that rig.

Thanks for the comments Burninate, I plan to OC both the CPU and GPU next week, I only installed the system last week, so I'm letting it settle in first before I turn up the juice.:burn:

Sounds like it will be a nice system, let us know how it performs. And :welcome: to the forums.

Well, you're looking for CPU/RAM performance difference in a GPU benchmark?

The score difference is OK, since you're getting much higher CPU scores now, which are then added to the final 3dmark score. I'm sure though that the SM2 and SM3 FPS are pretty much identical.
