What is "Folding"?

I keep hearing people talk about "folding" scores or just "folding", but yet, I have no idea what they are talking about.
what is it, and why is it important to Overclocking?;)

Folding isn't overclocking, although it has been used as a tool to test an overclocked system for stabilty...

Folding refers to a prgram called "[email protected]" here is a link:

basically you run the program on your machine in the background to help them with their calculations, of course sites like this and others have formed teams, and the teams complete to see who has the most machines "folding", they keep score, etc...
