I'm been a long time Nvidia user so i'd rather stick to Nvidia based cards still unless there is a ATI card that will currently be far better in the AGP arena.
Anyways here's the problem before you ask. My current system is as follows:

Asus ncch-dl w/ dual 3.2 xeons
2G Mushkin DDR
2 36G WD Raptors
1 160G Seagate
dual Samsung 17" Lcds
etc....

As you noticed i can only go with AGP cards. I currently have this video card:
ASUS N6800/TD/512M GeForce 6800 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail

At default settings i got this 3dmark06 score:

Will i notice a huge difference if i bought this card instead:
BFG Tech BFGR78256GSOC GeForce 7800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail

The 7800GS would be it. There will be no more high end AGP cards.
the 7800 GS is the best AGP graphics card.

with your CPU combo there you wont be limited by CPU. like me. i just upgraded to a 6800 GS for AGP because my CPU would have been a big bottleneck. even overclocked. (i think ???)

plus upgrade that cooling and you could prolly get a nice OC out of it.

prolly 500-550/700-750. not bad for the Ol' AGP.

dude i saw yesterday that ATI are releasing the X1950 in AGP! its nuts i tells you.

but yeah, 7800gs is the top nvidia agp card. ive got one, and must say its mighty fine.

Another good and cheaper solution would be the AGP 7600GS. Not as good as the cards listed above but still powerful.

Your score in 06’ surprises me. I have a weaker processer, and less ram (not sure if this makes a diff) – but I doubled your score.

Make sure you have your agp chipset up to date. I didn’t have mine up to date and was getting rough scores. After updating my agp chipset driver I bumped my score like 800 points.

Your card drivers I wonder about too… I ran this with the 91.47 drivers. They seem to work best for me.

My 06’

I you should address your driver issues before updating you card. You might get better proformance out of what you have. You never know.

Unless I’m missing something here I guess. just my 2c

Yes, your 6800GS has a 256bit memory interface and GDDR3 ram at ~1000Mhz.
His card has a 128bit memory interface and GDDR3 at, I think, 700Mhz.
I think that the 6800GS core clock is higher than his core clock as well.

That would explain the large difference between the performance between the two cards.

The 7800GS would be an amazing upgrade from the current card.

Code:
Graphics Engine: GeForce 6800
Video Memory: 512MB
Engine Clock: 325MHz
Memory Clock: 540 MHz(DDR2)
RAMDAC: 400MHz
Bus Standard: AGP 8x/4X/2X
Memory Interface: 128-bit DDR2
Max Resolution: 2048x1536

Yea the x1950pro in AGP would be the best, I'm sure it would be better than a 7800gs, but if you want to stick with nv then you've already got your answer.

Nvidia ~ 7800GS
ATI ~ x1950pro

It will come down to what you like better personally ATI or Nvidia

HIS AGP

Just got my hands on a brand new (boxed) HIS X1950 PRO ice q 3 AGP card Turbo 594mhz engine and 1.54 GHZ mem to replace a 6 year old ageing family PC. Want to stay with AGP (got PCI-E Sli upstairs) Is this card ok and would this mobo be suitable http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131143/show_product_specifications . Keeping in mind that it would allow me to change to PcI-E at a later time. Have bought a 500w PSU and Pentium 4 3.0ghz processor and would be running 2GB mem.
Any thoughts.
cheers

Op`ssss just saw the date of the last post. Sorry guys.
