Try an auto parts store, or auto paint outlet. To get a fine finish you need 600-1200 grit (any will do, but finer gives a better finish) With 1000 or 1200 you end up with a pretty mirror like finish. That's the object- not to remove metal, but to true it up to flat and make it smooth. Use a flat surface or piece of glass under the sandpaper when you do it.
True, true....
I did mine that way. 600, 1200, then 1500 on the sink. 1500 ONLY on the cpu. (Be gentle on that chip. You DO NOT want to sand a lot, and DO NOT want to see copper!) USE Arctic Silver! Best stuff goin'!
There's an auction on e-BAY right now for the Arctic Silver II, $8.00 for a 3 gram tube, with free shipping. I got a tube of the small contact Arctic silver from this guy. Shipped out quick, too. The Auction is in the "Computers-Desktop Components-Heatsink/Fans" listings.
My cC0 600 Celeron/Gorb is running at 1045MHz, 2.05v, with temps of 28c idle, 38c load.
Wet/dry sandpaper from the local autobody shop or supply store. Works wonders...............
