needs to be cheap and still be OK mobo... no need for that fancy stuff :) just basic will be fine :)... thanks.

and also ram :)

either the Asus p5b, the ASUS P5B-E, or the gigabyte DS3... still tons of ocing features yet reletaivly cheap.

P5B

P5B-E (has ICH8R unlike P5B so you have raid capabilities)

DS3 (cheapest 129.99 and yet was one of the top C2D oc boards when they came out and still is a very good board... i would probably go with this)

and for memory... i dunno are you going to be ocing much? what are you willing to spend cus ddr2 prices have gone up quite a bit.. cus when i bought my Gskill DDR2 6400 "HZ" it was 230 now its 305.. JEEZE 75 bucks more wow.... so ya it really depends on if your ocing and how much ram you want.

but there are some good cheaper ddr2 2gb kits out there.

how about the S3? i've seen people talking about it... not sure... and the abit board? i've also heard about them...

to be honest... i'm worried about DDR2... it's really sky rocket lately... but i think i'll be just fine... i saw a 2GB kit from gskill at the newegg for 200... which is still high but still affordable... it's PC6400 = 800mhz at stock... that's good enough... i'm pretty dang sure my E6600 will not pass that on air (9 X 400 = 3.6).... IMO i think i'll probably go with the DS3... any amount of dollar off is good... i'm in such a tight possition rite now :)...

if the S3 is as good as people say it is... then i think i'll be fine...

115 mobo + 200 ram... i already have the E6600 off a friend for 150... only thing left is the graphic card... i already have the audigy 4 pro and about 2TB of HDD waiting... this will be a very nice system... i hope it'll last me a year :)

o god, it'll last you 3 years at least. the conroe is a BEAST.

just pick up an 8800gtx and your good to go

i suggest ds3. great board. i've gotten it 3 times. and ill keep on buying until i find something better.

well based on the price of the p5b-e i say get the ab9-pro. both have ich8r but ab9 has higher cpu power regulation. since you have a e6600 high fsb's is not going to be needed. you looking at a 3.6ghz 24/7 oc on air and possibly 3.8ghz on water 24/7 oc.

my list for you goes like this
abit aw9d (189)
abit ab9-pro (150)
asus p5b-e (150)

what about hte abit ab9... you think it can hit 400FSB? its onsale for only 105.. which is cheaper.. and i can throw the extra money into ram or graphic card :)... i never used raid, and i don't think i'll ever will. most of my HDD are IDE (got to pick up an IDE controler card)... and i'm ok with just the single drive performance

ab9 and ab9 pro are the same, the only difference is the ich8 vs ich8r. yea the ab9 and ab9 pro with 1.5bios are hitting 450mhz fsb. mine would have done 400mhz but due to it being a early board is for some reason will not go above 396mhz fsb.

for $104 the ab9 has to be the best bang then since its on sale.

hi'
it seems to me that I read in some stickies that save bucks on mobo is not a good idea ...
I might be wrong, but so far, asus is on the top with the P5B.E and above, it's ok for budget and is far the best if you OC a bit ;)

imho of course :)
