OK folks I am fed up with this old P2 300 Mhz and now that I have the money, I am going to go buy the parts for a new computer. ;) I'd like something like a Duron 700 maybe a little higher, something relatively cheap since I don't have boatloads of money to blow. And I was wondering what mobo should I buy? I have been looking at the ASUS A7V133 (no audio, of course :)) and it looks good, but is it a good mobo for overclocking? I have not ever overclocked anything before besides a video card (which is easy as pie), and I am just wondering if this is a good board for doing so.

And a few other questions...

Do Durons support ddr ram?

What heatsink should I buy for some good cooling? That Glaciator sounds good and seems to work for people.

And last, but not least, for checking my CPU temperatures, I've seen a friend's comp that can check the temp while in the BIOs, but what about when you are in windows? Can you check the temps there or do I have to buy something else for that?

Thank you in advance, your feedback is greatly appreciated. I'm finally gonna get more out of my Voodoo 4 4500 PCI. ;)

for monitoring temps in windows i use HMONITOR. it's a free download. it is a trial version, but if you uninstall it and reinstall it, you get another trial. it's a very small program. it allows you to monitor temps, voltages, and fan speeds all from within windows. if you email me, i will send you the HMONITOR.ZIP file that i downloaded.

as far as hardware goes, not sure about the best mobo for a duron. i went with a epox-8k7a for my 1.33Ghz AYHJA athlon. it will accept duron's. i've read nothing but good things about it and it hasn't given me any problems at all yet. i just last night went from 1.33 to 1.4 overclocked. i'm taking it slow to see if i notice any problems on the way up to 1.7. :)

good luck
