Slot boards will never die out untill they quit making converter cards...personaly I preffer a slot board, because I can use either design, socket or slot...with a 370 chip and a slot converter you can use the slot board, and when u want to play with your old PII, you can simply pop it in and clear the cmos and boot up....and if you are going to get a slot board, I would recomend the BE6-2 ver2(bx chipset), or the SH6 (815E chipset).
both boards are made by Abit The SH6 does not have raid, but it has ata100 (naitive) 1/2 agp, 133mhz bus support.
Intel just might change their socket design soon, but it ain't out now..and just may turn out to be vaporware
I am currently running the SH6 and I can run 1.12g...I turned it down to 1059 for longevity, but this is the most stable board I have ever owned, and one of the easiest to clock... almost childs play. I don't think I will need a new board for quite some time..and when the time comes, hopefully the P4 will have all the probs ironed out, and have support for ddr mem...right now, my PIII smokes a P4 in multimedia scores and raw computing power, and the only way the P4 outshines mine, is in the memory benchmark...so far, I think the 815E is the best chipset intel has come out with.
Just my opinion
