I know a guy who is looking to get rid of his current PC. Always has problems with it and just too noisy. He's been looking into nettop PCs, small form factor types. The only 'heavy-duty' task he would like for it to do is play some of his old games that played well on his 6800 Ultra.

I really don't know if the nVidia ION or an ATI setup would be comparable or exceed the performance of a 6800Ultra.

He's looking into a nettop PC or just a small PC that is quiet.

HD3300 should be about equal or a little faster.

It depends what you're doing. On new games, yeah, the HD3300 will be a bit faster. On older games (around 2005 and earlier), though, the 6800 will annihilate the HD3300. Just as a rough comparison, I found some 3DMark scores:

With an HD3300 and a Phenom II X4:
3DMark 2001: 29000
3DMark 2003: 9000
3DMark 2005: 7000

With a 6800 Ultra and a single-core Athlon64 3000:
3DMark 2001: 26000
3DMark 2003: 13000
3DMark 2005: 5500

Now you have to consider that 3DMark 2001 is largely CPU bound... I wouldn't be surprised if the 6800's score came close to doubling if it was run with the Phenom II. And the 6800's 3DMark 2003 score is about 40% higher than the HD3300's, despite the fact that it was running on a much older system.

I'd say for the guy's purposes, an IGP isn't going to cut it. Better to go with a discrete card, maybe a passively cooled 4550 or 4650. You wouldn't be able to cram it into a nettop form factor, but it wouldn't be too hard to build a quiet and fairly compact mATX system with one, and they're pretty cheap.

The 4350 is around $35, the 4650 can be found as low as $50, both come in half height and passively cooled versions.
