right now i have a diamond viper 550 and damn i need a new card. im thinking of getting a ati radeon 64 meg ddr card. geforce cards are way to expensive for me and probably not worth buying for an old celly system. i'm not going to buy anything till august so maybe something better will come out. i dont play alot of games but i do play arround with some 3d software and I do alot with adobe photoshop, psp 7, etc. which is why i have a ton of ram.

heres the basic outlay i have
abit bx6 rev 2
celly 566@850
768 megs of ram

i run a dual boot system with windows 2000 and mandrake 8.

i dont know much about vid cards but the ati radeon looks like a good low priced card. if anyone else has any other suggestions for a card arround $150 let me know.

The GF2 Pro is in that price range. Another alternative is to find a used GF2 MX card from somebody that has recently upgraded.

so is a low end geforce 2 card going to be better than a ati radeon 64 meg card. and whats the difference in performance between a 64 meg card and a 32 meg card. thanks.

i have lots of video card here, if you want to get a cheap nice card, the nvidia MX series in nice, but i think if you like image quality and decent performance, go with the ATI radeon 32 meg DDR. I have one in one of my systems here, and i thought it would be kinda weak but its actually pretty nice.

I've got both and have to say the Radeon 64 VIVO has superior image quality. The GeForce gets it in raw speed but can't match the vivid display of my Radeon.

yes I agree with Jon.. Since ebola is going to be using more of intensive 2D image editing apps, ATI Radeon 64mb would be perfect. Their 2D image is unbeatable.

I know that the 64mb vid ram over a 32mb vid ram, you'll benefit very little in some games at high resolutions and graphics level in the 3D game environment but I really don't know about how different it would be in the 2D image apps..

I'll cast another vote for the Radeon just to throw in my 2 cents. Whether it's the 32 or 64 is up to your budget, needs and desires.

well my friend is on his way to get his new car and hes buying my hercules prophet 2 ultra from me for 300$ and hes pickign me up a radeon 64 mb ddr with vivo while hes there that is half the price and from what i read it has better image quality but its not up there in the fps so i will know weather radeon or geforce is better whenever he gets back today

The Radeon doesn't get as many fps as the Ultra, but then again the only card that does is the GF3. The Ultra is the fastest card on the market aside from the GF3, that's why it was $500 when it premiered. The Radeon can however compete with the GF2 GTS. At lower resolutions the GF2 will get more fps than the Radeon, however at higher resolutions the Radeon will usually get the higer fps. The thing to remember is that the human eye only sees 24fps, anything beyond that is bragging rights. and when we say the GF2 is faster than the Radeon at this ot the Radeon is faster at that, most of the time were only talking between 5 and 10 frames difference, and when your getting 80+ frames it really doesn't matter that much. If you try to compare the speed of your new Radeon to the speed of your Ultra then you may find yourself a little dissapointed. If you look at your new Radeon for what it is in itself, a very fast video card with supperior 2D and 3D image quality and exceptional DVD playback you will be extremely satisfied with your purchase.
Basically any vid card you buy nowadays, whether it be a Radeon or an N'Vidia based card, will not dissapoint.
