I just swapped my 3800+ for a FX-55 for free:D, overall spec in sig. Now I want to get 2GB of RAM and I'm looking at the Corsair TWINX2048-3500LLPRO DDR (2 X 1GB). The problem is it wont fit into my PC due to the Thermalright XP-120.

I'd use the other RAM slot that are free but they are very unstable (quirk with the type of mobo I have). So I decided I want to get a new cooler. I want to overclock so I want something better than the XP-120 but that won't block the RAM slots closest to the CPU. What heatsink you recommend or would I be better water cooling in which case what kit would I get? I don't want to spend more than $100 but if necessary could stretch to $120. I know there are water kits under $100 but I don't know what to get. I've never water cooled before so I hope you can point me in the right direction. :)

Thermalright ultra 120 and your choice of fan (the one you use on ur xp-120 will work prefectly fine) ... the ultra 120 is ALOT better then the xp120... and it is the best imo.

I've read nothing but good things about the Scythe Ninja, and I know it's definitely less than $100. From the pictures I've looked at, it seems like it might work ok, as its large size appears more tall than wide. (but as I don't have one yet, I can't be positive) Worth a look I'd say.

Would like to use the Ultra-120 except to install it on my mobo means it would blowing right on to my PSU and I dont want that. Just looking around at the prices and I saw a Scythe Infinity, would it be better than the Ninja?

One more question (sorry if it wasn't clear the first time:-/) but whats the general opinion on the small basic water cooling kits, the ones around $100? If there any way decent I'd get one of them as I want to experiment with water cooling but don't want to spend big bucks on a high end kit; saving money for new build next year :D

w00t for xp 120! Just put mine in today with a massive delta fan (120x38mm).
Mine comes within about 2mm of my ram :bday:

Don't really know if this helps the_cultie at all... but glad to see you are happy.

The Scythe Inifinity has shown to be better in reviews but at the expense of more noise, weight, and price. The Tuniq Tower is available at svc.com and it is arguably the best hsf.

You can theoritically make a very effective performing water cooling system for less than $120 dollars you know.

Good luck,

Thanks for that but after doing some more research I'm going to wait until after the new year in the hope of funds improving :D. But now I'm back to undeceided. Oh well:rolleyes: Thanks guys for all you valuable inputs. :santa:
