Just salvaged a 2.5gb Quantum Bigfoot HDD out of an old 486DX Got it all repartitioned and formatted.

Now I'm just wondering what I should do with it? It's got a huge platter... maybe I should open it up and turn it into an led-carousel with them bobbing up and down in fun patterns at a blazing 3600rpm :attn:

Seriously though if anyone can think of a fun mod to try with this thing speak up. There has to be lots you can do with a 5.25" HDD that's only 0.75" thick.

Bigfoots are fun :D
I have one that when it spins up you feel as if you have to duck for cover, lol. The bearings are shot in the motor and its REALLY ****ing loud when it spins up.
I powered it up at a lan party once and it scared a bunch of people.

LOL, well this one still has good bearings, though it shakes like it's appoplectic when it spins up. Maybe I could cut little vent holes in it so that it makes a whine like a bomb dropping when it spins up? :)

sure, but run it off a different PSU, when it shorts out you don't want your mobo going with it.

If you have torx bits take the thing apart and use the platters on a sunny day to shine light in peoples eyes :D
I did that way back in 10th grade once, lol

I would personally go with the LED idea. What if you made it coordinated and did a cool light show. Or you could just have it spin your name around and around and around and around and around and....dizzy, can't type anymore.

hdd window mod much??? Google it... add some lights to the clear plexi... i think you could have some fun with them...

It could also be used as one of those reflector thingies to get a tan...
