I need a burner for the new system I am going to make (as posted in this forum). I'm just not sure what I'm looking for. I think I've got my needs met if I go for about 24x/10-12x r/rw, and apparently all the burners have BURNproof, which I'm not sure exactly what it does. Of the following brands, which is the most reliable and best performing: Mitsumi, Sony, Panasonic, Ricoh, or Teak? Prices for these burners range between $154-170 CDN.

yeah go with the lite-on it is the next best thing to plextor:D
plextors are a little more expensive, but the lite-on is an awesome drive and come highly recommended

Lite-On is the best bang for the buck and is fully supported by Clone CD. Plextor's are over priced and often don't support all the Clone CD raw modes.

Lite-on's are the best and cheapest (although if you want to back-up your audio cd's you should get a plextor as lite-ons don't rip with the cactus protection)

currently, i have a TDk velocd works great but then again i've only had it for 2 weeks.
For the best bang for the buck, i suggest Lite-on. Can't go wrong with it! and all i hear are good reviews about it. Just look at the above replies.

Alright, thanks.

Okay, I think I'm going for a Lite-on 32/10/40 for 180 cdn. I've been hearing a lot of good stuff about lite-ons, and I just found out that one of my friends have a lite-on, so I'm most likely sold. Plextors are a tad pricey for my needs (about 280 cdn for the same speeds). Thanks for the advice.

I got a TEAC 24x10x40 from NewEgg for $95...I looked at a Lite-On, but for the same price (at the time), I went with the better brand...no regrets :D
