I am currently in the market for a new laptop and its between a Dell and HP.

I found a coupon for 20% off any Inspirion Notebook. But I was curious if this was a good deal or if better deals have been offered in the past and I should wait it out. I have seen the discounts fluctuate dramatically on monitors so I was curious if the same applied to laptops.

Thnx

20% coupons used to be common place at dell. The great opportunities were the $750 off any lappy over xxxx. 35% coupons were available if you were patient, usually a few times per year.

But since dell has changed their marketing scheme it is difficult to find significant discounts.

However if you call in your order the sales associates have some pricing lattitude and can provide discounts. Last month this technique worked for a 30% discount on a $1500 lappy.n To be exact, the order was placed online, then the customer called in with buyers remorse having found a less expensive but similarly configured model from a competitor, the dell rep promptly offered the 30% to prevent the customer from cancelling the order.

Note: I am not suggesting that you be unethical. Just do your homework, and if you find a competitive price on a similar configuration then ask for a discount.

Not to thread jack or anything but... If my University gets a 7% discount do you think I could combine that with the 20% Coupon I got in an e-mail? We have a Dell EPP or something link at my university site

I was under the impression the % coupons never stack :(

A.) from my experience the coupons Don't stack.

B.) To make it worse certain offers/coupons are only good for a specific category. for example ...Home...or Bussiness... Or Education/Gov't. Therefore to get your school discount you have to buy it through the school window however, this locks you out of the 20% discount specifically for Home. I tried this same approach for a small business and thats the fate i met.
