Hey Everyone,
I have just bought and put together an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (1533MHz).
I was just wonder whats the normal operating temperature for it - idle and full load using a normal alluminium HS. My HSF is a GlobalWin WBK38 - just a fat alluminium HS with a 6800RPM fan.
When not overlclocked (1533MHz) idle is 40*C, full load is 48*C.
When overclocked to 1666MHz (145FSBX11.5, VCore 1.89v) idle is 47*C and full load is 55*C. Is that normal or is it dangerous for the CPU.
Whats the normal temps for Athlon XPs and the highest temp thats safe for overclocking?
Thanks Everyone for Your Help.

that is a normal and expected temp for that processor, to improve it try adding some better case fans, also that heatsink ws not that good and is quite loud. upgrade to a copper heatsink for better results.

Well I already have 4 case fans, 2 intake and 2 blowing out. I am really limited on my budget and can not afford to buy anythign else for my PC. But, 55*C is normal for full load??? and is it safe???

Go to the 'AMD Processors' section and read the FAQ.

It says 45C and below should be a safe full load temp.

45-55C is considered hot but not TOO hot, but you're at the top end of that range which puts you in potential danger zone.

I wouldn't think you'd fry your cpu or anything but you might run into problems. Save up for a better heatsink or something.

To knock down a few degrees you could lap your Heatsink. That doesn't cost much money. Just need sandpaper. I do believe that that is too warm, just my opinion though.

Will you damage the Heatsink if u lap it? Because it already looks and feels flat. And also my friends AXP 1800+ not overclocked runs at 54*C idle LoL!!!

If you lap it correctly you won't damage a thing and you will get better temperatures. (Do a search for "lapping" in the forums for tips) And even if you did it wrong, you could just keep lapping until you get right....or until you wear though the base. :D (not likely to happen)

Also, are you using Arctic Silver as your thermal compound? Using it can knock off 2-3 degrees C from your temps. As a low budget way to get your temps down (I definitely wouldn't be happy with those temps) you can try making a duct from one of your intake fans directly to the CPU fan so that you're getting cool outside air right to your HSF. Then in the meantime, save up for a more potent heatsink. (Again, try the search for ideas on ducting)

Nah, I have nearly ran out of my tube of AS3 so I don't want to remove the Heatsink and lap it, otherwise maybe i would. :(
My system has been running stable so far, so I think it should be right. No matter how far I push it, it doesn't go pass the 55*C mark so I think it should be safe for now.
