whats it mean if my sound just goes pop?

i was sittin in windos chattin on msn and my speakers went pop and i had no sound, then i quickly went under to check the cables didnt smell nufin i took the speaker wire out and looked at it plugged it back in restarted and now it works. what was that pop of?

You maybe had a small power spike that got into the speakers, that or your foot bumped the speaker cable and the caused some sort of static interferance. I wouldnt worry unless it happens often. BTW: are your speakers pluged into a well grounded outlet?
