Can anyone help me select the most stable and versitile motherboard for overclocking? I have curently the Epox EP-8KTA VIA KT133 AGP with an 800 Athalon. 128 pc133 and 128 pc100. I can only get it to overclock @ 864. The Bios settings are slim only one setting which I set at 108fsb with memory @ 144/3.Anything higher locks it up. It's been stable @864 for 3 months. Just not happy since I see most running higher. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Big A

I have the MSI K7T Turbo (KT 133A). Seems to be stable as a rock and with the latest BIOS upgrades, plenty of multiplier,AGP, memory and voltage adjustment features.

i love my asus boards and the a7v133 is no exception, but if can spare burning stuff up for more marks and fps, then the i'd say that the iwill kk266(r) board is the tool for the trade. if u want a good OC, with a fast stable board with much room for tweaking and accessories, go asus a7v133
abit isnt all its choked up to be.

good luck,
monza

amd tbird 800@1000 (7.5x133)
"New" Vantec cooler (gotta love that clip)
Asus a7v133 motherboard

evga geforce2pro 32mb
maxtor 30g
40x cdrom

Thanks for the suggestion. From what I've read so far it looks like Abit has the highest return rate and Iwill has compatibillity isssues with S.B.Live Which I have. And Msi,Asus have no ISA slot which my 56K is.so unless I get a new modem also the Epox 8kta3 has an ISA slot and has the apollo kt133a. Any
Ideas ?
Thanks Big A

Do you have any more information on the compatibility issues with S.B Live cards and the Iwill?

Looks to me like you believe everything you read. In the 10-15 Abit boards I've used I've never sent one of em back. They've all worked great out of the box....multiple BIOS flashes, many a SB LIVE, which works great with every version of Windows on My Abit KT7A RAID. You can quote what one person thinks all you want, but many people have problems that I've never run into. Is it because I have some superior intelligence? I'd like to think that, but I doubt it. If you are asking for advice, which is seems that you are, I'd recommend this board, the Abit KT7A RAID. I've used most all of em out there, and have enjoyed Abit's the best, right behind Asus. Iwill's have always been one of those throwbacks as far as I'm concerned....too many problems with past products. but that's me. If you know what you're doing, I think any one of the KT133A mobos should work just fine.

Your right I believe what I read. Isn't that what these type of sites are for to share our experiences and our intellect with others. I'm new at O.C., but it seems if someone is going to test, write and post an article on their results shouldn't it be un-bias, and based on raw testing, not the Ford/Chevy Opinion. Granted everyone has different hardware and it will react different, so the true test can only be applied when the board is installed. I'm undecided again and need more input.
Again, thanks for the info everyone

I am going with the MSI K7T R Turbo,Go compair it to the other boards it is the most stable in all O/C tests.

It has the raid,Ultra Dma 100,And a bios flash That will let you change the fsb 1 mgz at a time,Has the KT133a chipset, for 133 FSB.I went to all the O/C sites I think it is this site that did the test on the MSI board and the review was a comparison to all the most popular boards mentioned in the posts. The MSI was punished for 48 hours of testing and never crashed or locked . All other boards crashed 2 times in the first 24 hours,The Msi was left running to see when it would crash after 48 hours the tester got bored lol.So do a little research And Look at the MSI K7T-R TURBO

Which site was that?

But a closer look at the anandtech reviews shows that the IWill KK266 gets the best rating overall!

I have the Iwill no problems its running 900 6@150 thats all it will do for me the chip I mean, I have another 750 T-bird in a K7 it's doing 900, I'm not complaining.....after golf season then I'll have cash to blow on puter parts again....lol

Just wanna be sure you tried to reach your max (864Mhz, I think) without this sulky Pc100 Dimm, as this may be one of the limiting factor...

Try with only your pc133, before buying anything.

But it's indeed true that any KT133A based chipset will do better than KT133 plain. (KT133=112 max FSB ; KT133A=Max FSB at least 140Mhz -can be 150, but...-)

I originally had only the pc133 128 and still would only clock at 108front. The board dosen't let you change the multiplier only the fsb which limits tweaking. also, the memory at cas 2 won't recognize the pc100 so it's set at cas 3 I've put 2 bios flashes in hoping for some added tweaks but nothing. I think my bottle neck is the Ati rage128 Xpert 32m, card. I've got it set at clock speed 110 and memory speed 120 anything higher lockes it up in 3dmark. it's original speed is 75 or 85.
Windows will boot up to 111fsb but locks in 3dmark. Am I on the right track?

Where in my post did you get the impression I believe everything I read? I asked a simple question "Do you have any more information on the compatibility issues with S.B Live cards and the Iwill?"
If your referring to my choice of motherboards that was based on Joe's testing of the Iwill KK266 on the main page of this forum. This is an equal opportunity forum. You like Abit and so do many others. Your choice. Thank you for your opinion. Have a nice day.
