What's the port that the Ethernet Cord plugs into labeled?

I'm having trouble connecting to the internet and I only have one LAN or Broadband port in My Network Connections (1394). I double click on Internet Explorer and I get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" message. I'm connecting directly from a Gateway to my PC. Can't figure out why I can't connect to the Internet. Can someone help me out?

IEEE1394 is Firewire, and not used for networking to broadband.

Do you have the onboard network card enabled in the BIOS?
Check Device Manager for a Network Adapter or any problem devices.
That motherboard should have a VITESS VSC8201RX ethernet adapter driver.

Did you install any network card drivers?

Doh! I haven't even installed the driver that came with the mobo. That was a bonehead move. I've been installing and un-installing so many things I've lost track.
