This distinction was made to me many years ago when I kept confusing people with the mixup - my parents thought I was diving into frugality a little too early for my age.
I doubt Socket 939 Opterons of any type will go "on sale" anytime soon. But, as with all products, the regular price will drop eventually. I don't know when that will be.

Might want to read around the forums a bit, rumor had it DC and SC Opterons will no longer be sold retail.

Wait till next year when Socket M2 hits , then all the 939 and 940 stuff should be on a slide and Good DDR will become rare leaving mostly CL3 and 4 value chips.
