I was wondering where I could get 800 and higher grit sandpaper for lapping? So far I have 400 and 600 grit. I went to Home Depot and 2 other hardware stores, and the highest grit they all sell is 600. Could I just lap my thermoengine with the 400 and 600 grit sandpapers? Thanks

Walmart has up to 2000 grit

Any autoparts place that sells sand papper for painting cars. Just call them first. I rollerbladed out to a hardware store a mile away on a HOT day only to find 400 was the highest they stocked. But that was hardware, an autoparts store should have it.

One mile on a HOT day? I used to do 18 miles, every day, unless it rained, even in the Central Kalifornia heat. That was before I got married though!

Sherwin Williams Paint Stores have just about any paper you want. I picked up some 3000 Grit Wet Dry just last week.

Two miles (there and back) and this is after rollerblading around campus for a couple which is something I do everyday. That is till I blew my knee out last night :(.

But if you really can't find any high grit anywhere (say you live in North Dekota or something) you can always take two pieces of lower grit and rub them together, smoothing them out.

18 miles? Back when I was a kid, we had to walk 50 miles to school rain or snow. Just kidding. I am a kid. Gotta love the twinkie-mobile

Found mine at Walmart, all the way up to 2000 fine. Also had wire wraps that I used to round my ide cables.
