Alrite I'm planning to buy that AMD T-bird chip guaranteed to 1600-1700mhz chip from OCZ.....now im debating what motherboard to get....
Here is my debate.....abit kg7.....epox 8k7a......or gigabyte 7dxr?

they are all nice nice boards....however i cant seem to decide which one...which board would you choose and why? also where can i get the Millenium Glaciator cooler? i cant find it

welcome to the forums , I have heard good things on the epox and believe the voltage on the board goes higher then the others , I have also heard good things on the abit but but have heard nothing on the gigabyte board.
I would say the epox.

I am going to a comp show in Pomona Sat the 30th.

And I am leaning towards the "8K7A" myself with a 1.33-266 T-bird, then some DDR 2400 from Crucial, can't beat their price.

I like my Abit KT7E but I want DDR for my new sys.

Let me just step in right here and save you a lot of trouble by telling you NOT to buy from OCZ! Go check the reviews on this place at www.resellerratings.com. Here is a direct link to their feedback:

http://www.resellerratings.com/comview.cgi?TheOverclockerzStore

I'll let you read their feedback and come to your own conclusions.

I'd encourage you to not buy pretested and take the challenge of overclocking yourself. BUT, if you do want to buy pretested CPUs there are many stores out there besides OCZ which offer such services. I don't know any because I don't buy pretested CPUs, but I'm sure someone will be able to help you out.

By the way, for the board go with the EPoX 8K7A!

Check out the three-board comparison at http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/r_amd760 (although the site seems to be down at the moment). They compared the Epox, Gigabyte and also the AMD A7M266. The conclusion was that the boards are pretty close in performance, but the Gigabyte was the most stable and had the most features of the three.

Personally, I had an A7M266 that I had to RMA (died on day 1). And I'm in the process of setting up my system with the Epox board. So far all's I can tell you is that I like the board's layout and features. Performance info. later today!

OK, I can now officially say that the Epox 8K7A ... (drum roll) ... ROCKS!! Currently running rock-stable at 1.54ghz (10.5 x 147 on an Axia 1.33 at 2.01 volts; 512mb Crucial PC2100; H2O). Will provide temps when my dual strip thermistor kit arrives.

I'm getting the GA-7DXR, because it has the most features and looks to offer pretty good overclock options, especially for a novice like myself (@BioS and EasyTune are a boon as well). I'll be happy to post about it when I've got it, but currently every retailer with whom I have spoken does not have the board in stock, and the next shipments will arrive in stock this coming week. There is a high demand for this board, and for good reason. Stable and capable. Besides, 3 1Gb DDR slots? Hehehe.

well...i chose OCZ because they had a pretested cpu @1600-1700 for cheap! $179! crazy....i mean if they arent good....does anyone else know a good site that has pretested cpus for those kinda prices....? i still dont know where to get the millenium glaciator... the epox board.... overclocking is done via bios or dipswitches? or fsb in bios and multiplier in dipswitches..?

Multiplier is set by a dipswitch, voltage by jumpers, and fsb in the bios.

The thing is, unless they've vastly changed their ways you can probably expect that CPU to do 1550 maximum. They badly overrate all the CPUs they sell.

I've heard PC Nut is good. But, I have no personal experience with them. I'm really not the person to ask about Overclockers stores because I'm not a big supporter of them (and I've been chewed out because of that several times in the past). I did have bad experiences with OCz when I ordered two CPUs for friends from them. They did not come anywhere close to meeting their claimed speeds. If they've gotten their act together, by all means order from them, but I'm skeptical given my experiences.

Well, OCZ tends to over-state their offerings; if you buy a pretested 1.6-1.7GHz chip, most likely you will get one that barebly make it pass 1.5GHz. Unless they changed how they operate, as I bought one of their pretested chip at 1.2-1.3GHz few months ago. Not only it barely broke 1.13GHz, the chip died after few days; and their tech support/customer service bites the big one. I ended up had to go to my CC company to dispute the charge. Go with someone more reputatable. Da Nut from www.pcnut.com may not advertise (or falsely claim) as high with their prestested chips, at least he delivers what he advertise, and often more!

This company gets dissed with regularity, but I really don't know why. None of the hardware sites even bother to test their coolers, even though they look to be pretty decent. Maybe they don't give away free samples?

I had one of their cooler/peltier/Celeron 300A combinations and it worked great at 450mhz, as advertized.

hmm step-thermodynamics.com even has a 30-day money back guarantee.....tempting

You guys may want to check out www.bigfootcomputers.com. It's a Canadian site in Toronto. Good service, good prices (Canadian $$) and they have a good selection of stuff and adding to it all the time. Best of all the storefront is clean and easy to use unlike some of these other sites. I have done 4 orders with these guys so far and haven't been let down yet.

Have you looked into MSI, it is a great board without the hassles!! How about a 33% O/C out of the box, Need I say more?

If you still want to go with the Glaciator, here is where to buy it.
I'm thinking of buying one in a week or two, finally gonna go AMD!
