In the barrel!
Ok, still consider myself a new-b round here but catching on quick. It looks like Intel has given up on the slot1 CPU's, choosing to focus on the 370 instead. Not real up on AMD product so I can't comment there. I'm using an Abit BE6-2. Now I know I can slap at least a 1Ghz fc-pga with a slotkey in there, but what's the point? I can o/c a 700 real close to 1Ghz. Looking at some of the newer mobo's out there though, it seems like the BX chipset is on it's way out. So what's a person to do? Maybe someone can rise to the challenge and comment on the differences between the BX, 815, 820, Via and what ever other chipsets are currently being marketed. I've seen Intel's road map in other posts and it would appear that somewhere towards the end of this year, the P3's will be the lower end of the lot with the P4 obviously becoming the flagship. Guess my point is while a P3-700@933 will be good for a while, what should I look forward to in the future?

Good question, I am currently a BX fan as I have been BURNED by the D*MN VIA chipset (!down with VIA!).

At the rate we all upgrade, someone has to have info on the other chipsets as compaired to the BX. This would be good info to have.

Anyone care to answer?

LONG LIVE THE BX. it is still the fastest out thier but *** it is aging is is mssing some nice features that the rest of thet board with newer chipsets got... like AGP 4x and DMA 66/100, although if you look at some BX boards that have a extra chip added that takes over the IDE portion of the chip set and added UDMA 66 i think the ABIT BX6-2 has it not 100% sure if that is the one, but i know some have that option.

oh and my bias opinion is becuase i have a BX board and no problems with it at all, i love my BX , my ABIT BF6

Ok, here's the fact.. In performance wise, there's nothing else on the planet that beats 440BX. BX chipset has the highest data transfer rate. It is still unbeatable. and the Intel's Solano i815E is very good but still get wacked by BX chipsets.
The good side about is that you'll have further overclocking potential with i815E than 440BX. Avoid Via Apollo chipsets as they sux ***.(pardon my french)

Abit BE6-2 Rev 1.2 & 2 do have UDMA100 and 2X AGP. It's the Rev. 1 that has UDMA66. Rev. 1.2 and 2 are excellent mobos.

I have the SH6 and BE62 v2.0 and I love the latter!! Only gripe is that I lose a dimm slot when I use the Alpha P3125. SH6's performance is close to the BE62 but still slightly below it . Both chipsets showed excellant stability.

Just out of curioisty what is the difference between BE6 II v1.2 and 2.0?

the diff. betw. Rev 2 & 1.2 is the Raid controller. 1.2 dont have it. other than that, they are pretty much the same.

If you are on a budget and looking for a used board, especially if you have a slot one CPU, then the BX motherboard is for you. If you're buying a new one, get a i815. There really isn't that much difference in speed. Maybe a BX by a hair, but the features on the i815 more than make up for the possible tiny loss in performance.

Soyo has a pair of boards with 66/100. their 6BA+IV has ATA66, the 6BA+100 has ATA100.
