This is my first post on here, so please don't take it as I am a noob, I am just trying to get some advice, because I want to make sure I get the best bang for my buck.

I am trying to decide between a nVidia GTX 560 Ti Superclocked 1GB and a ATI Radeon HD 6950 2GB. I want to be able to run any game that I throw at it at ultra/max settings, even high settings would suffice. I want to make a good decision because I will not have the money to just go and buy the other card. Can you guys give me some opinions on what I should do?

I would say the 6950 is slightly better.. In some games the GTX560ti pulls ahead, in others the 6950 pulls ahead. I would consider which games you will play and see if one of them drastically performs better at it.. Otherwise, they are pretty much up to other details like bundle, power consumption, noise, looks etc..

As for games at ultra/max settings, maybe in games 1-2 years ago, but 2011/12 games will bring those to uncomfortable framerates (25-30 fps) at ultra settings.. Those framerates are fine if you play single player campains, but if you play a fast action multiplayer, you want to hover around 60fps.

@diaz Thanks for the reply. Well I don't really play a lot of online shooters on my PC. I play a lot of those types of games on my Xbox. I will mostly play Skyrim, and maybe a couple other games here and there. I might play a couple shooters. What about on high settings? I don't have to play on ultra/max, it would just be better if I could. I also do a lot of recording in games as I am trying to become... YT Famous, if you want to call it that. So in your opinion, which would be better for what I do?

I believe the nvidia does a little better on skyrim for raw fps. The 6950 beats it in other games. I played skyrim on a o/c'ed 6950 and was happy with it. The 6950 played everything I threw at it pretty well.

What resolution do you play at?

@robble

For now I will be playing on a monitor with 1366 x 768 resolution in 720p, I think. Later on I will be playing on a monitor that has 1920 x 1080 resolution in 1080p. Will it do good on the monitor that I am getting later, and on the one that I have now?

720 is an easy resolution for those cards. You can definitely play pretty much any game at high, and some ultra settings enabled. In some games, you can enable full ultra settings no problem, but some games will probably need some settings lowered.

@diaz

Thanks. I think that I will go with the Radeon, because it has the 2GB memory instead of the 1GB. The color of it might not match my case or fan lights or motherboard or anything in my case, but it looks cooler anyway. I can also overclock it to what the 560Ti is at if I wanted to. I also think that I can unlock the 6970 shaders on the card I chose too. Thanks for your guys help!

Based on the card being a ti only and not the 448 core, the 6959 would be a good choice. 2gb of ram will help as well plus if you get lucky you may be able to unlock it to a 6970.

+1 for the Radeon choice of 6950. I am on the verge of making the same decision. I get my tax money in 2 days. I really wanted to go with the GTX 560Ti 448 however seeing as Im pretty sure they are still having to use a beta driver for windows to be able to recognize the card and such I would just go with 6950. I may be wrong and they may have come out with better drivers as I have not looked in a few days but I would rather not get into that whole growing pains the Nvidia card will go through with it's drivers. I do think it will kick some serious butt when they drivers are final and improved. It's a great piece of hardware and it should be called the GTX 565Ti 448 as it's gonna be very close to the 570 in price and performance 🆙
