i've been using this 21in CRT for gamming just cuase of the size but after gamming i feel the strain on my eyes so its time to go back to LCD. I still have my VG175 viewsonic which is great for gamming but its only 17.4 so i was thinking of a few models:

ViewSonic Q190mb 19" Features: SuperClearMVA
ViewSonic VG900B 19" Features: SuperClearMVA
ViewSonic VP191s does not have SuperClearMVA
ViewSonic VP201B 20.1"

http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/proseries/vp201b/

i tried to find a tech support # for viewsonic but couldnt, all i could get from reading their site is pretty much any of their monitors with superclearMVA would be acceptable for gamming cuase of the low response time. all but the VP191s has the superclearmva but only the VP series mention good gamming so it makes me wonder how well the others perform for gamming. I dont about any other brands for LCD so if you guys know of a better value and performance then please let me know. the 19in saves me almost 300 except the VP19 from the 20 only saves $180. saving a few hundred bucks would be nice but i figure i wont be upgrading monitors for atleast a few years so what the hell and get a 20in. but if the other 19in models perform just as good for $300 less then sure i would do that. what do you guys think? stick with the ViewSonic VP201B 20.1" for $880 or is there a better performer and brand out there for = or less money.

The Dell 2001FP has similar specs to the vp201B and costs about $719-$749 on sale sometimes on dell's website. And lately as low as $689

I have it at it works well with games with no ghosting. You might want to add to your list of monitors to consider.. my 2 cents

Samsung has a great monitor the 910T and if you look it up the more recent manufactured monitors have a 1000:1 contrast and 20ms response. Try to demo one today. Most places are arseholes about letting you try them out with games....I don't know how the sell them. I guess we just put up with it and buy. Go to Fry's as you will have a 30day no hassle guarantee. The monitor I have found for as low as $516.00 + tax...

sounds like i need to take a trip to frys this weekend... any1 else?

I would also recommend the Dell 2001FP as well. I just purchased it a few weeks ago for 689 with free shipping (only took 2 days to arrive from the purchase date). It is awesome and I have gotten no ghosting playing UT2004, Doom 3, Joint Ops, and my favorite, the World of Warcraft stress test. It also supports 1600x1200 resolution and has a response time of 16ms. I highly recommend it. Good luck with your decision.

perhaps I am blind, but I game quite a bit on my samsung 910t (25ms response time) and have never noticed ghosting- looks a lot better than my old trinitron 21inch CRT looked.

The 1000:1 contrast ratio is nice too. Best thing is they are only $560 shipped on newegg- quite a bit cheaper than the fast lcds I was also looking at.

EDIT: I was beaten too it :D
Maybe the 20ms response thing is why I havent noticed ghosing.

im off to frys now to see what they have but i'll do some more online research as well. perhaps dell might be the way to go cuase i get a 10% buisness discount with them but i had my eye on the ViewSonic VP201B 20.1" cuase it doesnt have big borders which i like but if i can find a much better performer for = or less then ill jump all over it so please keep the recommendations comming in and thanks.

just got back from frys and as usual they are no help what so ever  lifting 1 monitor to set on another computer seems to be more work then any saleman can handle so its back to internet research i go.

the dotpitch on this is great and contrast ratio is the same but what is the response time?

with my 10% off discount, free 2nd day air and tax deferred program i think this monitor is the winner. unless some1 can find be better for = or less money this will be the one to get. i'd be saving like $280ish so i doubt this deal can be beat.

i don't think you'll be disappointed with your choice of the 2001FP...

Your getting a good deal if you get 10% off also..with those savings you should get two.... :p

There goes your savings on the monitor..hehehehe :-/

But good luck with the monitor, keep us updated on how you like the monitor..

Hey dude I'm glad you love your monitor but you could articulate your feelings for it differently -donny_paycheck

I got it for $500 off Newegg. It is the greatest gaming LCD ever besides Dell 2001fp probably. It has 12 ms response time, DVI, sexy image quality, 500:1 contrast ratio.

I am a hardcore gamer and there is absolutely no ghosting in the crates full of games that I own. Get it. Dell 2001fp probably isn't worth the money unless you really want that big of a screen and a 1600 by 1200 native resolution. You would have to turn down settings in your games in the future to run at that high of a native resolution no matter what system you have right now.

I have a Clawhammer AMD64 3200+ OCed to 3400+ with 1 meg cache, Geforce 6800 GT OCed to Ultra Extreme, 1GB GEIL Value RAM OCed, Epox 3DAJ mobo, 1600 mhz FSB and I would probably have to run the settings down at 1600 by 1200 in some future games. Also, if you ever need a new gfx card, get the 6800 GT with a good core and OC to Ultra extreme. It's so hot. Not physically hot but hot as in sexy. My core temp OCed that high is only 54 C idle. New Radeons suck.

I used to hate Nvidia and like ATI and absolutely love 3dfx because I couldn't get over how kickass my dual Voodoo 2's were back in the day, but now that 3dfx is gone thanks to gay *** Nvidia, I prefer the new Nvidia cards over any of the new crap ATI cards.

The Nvidia cards are awesome with the Doom 3 engine and the ATI is around equal in Half-Life 2. There are going to be a lot more games with the Doom 3 engine too. I tested the x800 pro OCed to XT PE with the pipelines activated and the 6800 GT OCed to Ultra Extreme, the PE sucked, the GT owned it. I tried at all three graphics cards levels too meaning I tested regular Ultra and regular XT, GT and Pro, etc. The Nvidia won every time in Doom 3 by far, and in the Half-Life 2 beta, they were pretty much equal.

Anyways, back on topic, get the Samsung 172x and 6800 GT if u want to be secksay. As you can see, I am not a Nvidia fanboy. In fact, I despise them for running 3dfx out of business. I don't care how much the Voodoo 5 sucked, the dual Voodoo 2's made up for it. I bought all 3dfx cards just because of that. Yes, I was a 3dfx fanboi but I do admit their later cards blew donkey balls. Plus Nvidia pissed me off with their FX series, the FX cards sucked my wenis.

i just stick with flatscreen CRT for gaming. if you want to play at a resolution over 1280x1024, you'll be paying thousands of dollars for an LCD to support it, if one is even made. as long as you have the extra space on your desk, just stick with a flatscreen CRT. the strain on the eyes is slightly less with a flatscreen CRT, even though it isn't quite as much of a difference as an LCD would make. so if you do normal text operations and internet browsing and things like that, or if you odn't have a lot of desk space, then an LCD will do just fine. but for high-end gaming, the flatscreen CRT will probably do you a lot better.

How did you get it for that price? Can you post a link. I think I want one.

that price was a 3 day deal or something like that. but you can call and probably get it near 720 if ya call small buisness, just go to dell.com, small buisness, periphrials, 'n 20 inch monitors. it's the first one

Thanks I just checked and yeah they are $719 plus $33 shipping and handling. I am thinking about trying the New Sony 19inch out. It has 12ms response time and 500:1 contrast. I really wish I could see one of those Dell's in person. In a year everyone will ditch there LCD's in Favor of the new upcoming OLED's that will have 0 response time and be 10X brighter. Hmmmm what to do what to do?
