I want to buy a new mb but I'm having trouble deciding which to buy. I'm trying to decide between an ABIT Be6 II-v2.0 or an ABIT SH6. Both have features I'm looking for, but which do you think will perform better? Any comments or info is appreciated. If anyone has any suggestions on other MB's let me know.

Current bits of my system other than the old MB: Piii 700@933, 256 meg Mushkin RAM, Radeon 32DDR, 30 gig ATA/100 IBM HD.

Welcome Jester, as I haven't used either board I can't recommend one over the other. I would probably get the BE6IIv2 just because I love the old 440BX chipset. That might be your deciding factor. Do you want the old chipset or the newer chipset? What are ya gonna be running on it? I know the BX can have some probs 133 MHz and above, and of course you're limitted to 2/3 AGP. :)

Thanks for the reply Luta, the chipsets are basically what I'm trying to decide between, I know how good the old BX chipsets are, and I've heard good things about the new ones as well. Right now I'm leaning towards the Be6, I was just hoping to get some input from people that have used either board. Mainly what I'm interested in is the memory performance of both. Right now I have a Via chipset and I'm less than pleased.

Well, the mem performance is slightly better with the BX, but like I say you could run into some instability at high FSB's (133 and up).

I think there is a computer show coming up so I'll have to compare prices between the two and make sure I can actually find either. Right now I think I'm leaning towards the SH6, the fact that the Be6 supports Raid is nice but I'm not really sure I need that now, plus I can always buy a seperate controller card.

If anyone thinks of a reason to go with the Be6 rather than the SH6 or of another board let me know.

you could try to find an abit vh6t they will support the new .13 micron or a 266 because ddr is dropping in price

bx chipset is most stable and reliable. i have played w/ via133, intel 810(!) and 815 and when i finally got to the bx i never went back.

Thanx Placid, those boards were helpful. I'm actually reconsidering the Be6-2, but I'm still not sure. Luta mentioned that it might have trouble at bus speeds of 133 and up since it's only designed for a 100mhz fsb. My chip is a 700 abd I'm running at 933 at 1.65v right now and will probably want to up that to 140 since it'll do 980 at 1.7v. I might even want to go for 150, how much trouble might I really expect from this mobo?

Thank you for the help thus far, it is appreciated.
