I'm in the market for my 1st overclocking system and through some research I've narrowed it down to a couple of boards.
1) ms-6341 by msi
2) 7dxr by gigabyte
3) 8k7a+ by epox

Does anybody have any input from experience or suggestions? I would really appreciate the advice!!

Welcome to the forum.

I am still quite new to overclocking having recently built my first PC dedicated to the task, and hope that my experiences and words of wisdom are of use to you.

Although I am not aware of the motherboards you list, I would suggest doing a lot of research into this matter and reading reviews. On doing this.. I decided to obtain the Abit KT7A-Raid mobo which not only has great reviews, but is widely respected and used by the overclocking community and people on this forum, which makes obtaining advice easy. This motherboard however I discovered was exceptionally easy to set up and install.. with tweaking done easily by the 'softmenu' bios

The most popular motherboards makes on this Forum appear to be Abit and Asus.. although I personally recommend the Abit mobo's I would still suggest reading the reviews and making a informed deicing as to what is right for you.

Good luck with the overclock

The Epox board is getting good reviews. Personally, I like the IwillKK266. It is a very stable board, with plenty of overclocking options, if you are so inclined.

I bought the Epox 8K7A. Should have it sometime next week. Probably won't have a running system until next weekend. I'll certainly let everyone know how good the board is.

BTW, has anyone seen a review for the 8K7A anywhere other than socketa.com?

I think the Abit KT7A and IwillKK266 can handle DDR processors but are SDram boards and do not accept DDR ram, which it sounds like you're looking for.

If it is DDR ram boards that your looking at, I also have heard good things about the Epox board, which I think I'm gonna get. Only bad thing I saw in the reviews are the voltage adjustments... you can only go in increments of 0.1v, meaning if the chip runs at 1.75v, you can only go to 1.85 and then 1.95 but not inbetween. This doesn't present a major problem for me, but to some it might.

I haven't personally owned any DDR boards yet though. Another one I was looking at was the K7 Master. Hope this helped.

Good luck

I just recently built a 1.33 ghz system with the gigabyte 7dxr. Runs like a dream, but havent OC'd it yet as summers in Texas are too hot. Anyway, I fried my 1.33 athlon (dont ask, lol) but I'm going to get a Duron until the Palamino's come out. The relevence in this I guess is to tell you that the gigabyte's AMD 761 chipset should be Palamino ready and I think you should wait for a Palamino instead. Also the Nvidia Nforce boards or the brand new KT266A have better memory bandwith than current DDR boards. Although I love my gigabyte and its cool BLUE color, I'd get one of these upcoming boards as Palamino is on the horizon. :D

I used to have the Asus A7V 133 got rid of it now im using the 8K7A it will walk the dog over my old board quite well and is much more stable. I run it all the time now. It hardly ever goes off. I like it, you will like it, everyone else likes it, great price, great board, can't go wrong i would get it .....Good Luck

I am happy with my K7- Master, No problems for me.

But the FSB tops out @ 150.

Some of the SETI crew like the Epox 8K7A for getting a higher FSB.

Some are having good results with Mushkin DDR with the Epox, nice high FSB's.

But "I" don't like switch's. I like all BIOS able settings. That's me.

Good Luck.
