Hi all

Just recived my new capacitor that i knocked of of my A7A266 board. I know the longer lead on the capacitor is positve but on the mother board im not sure i am guessing the part colored in white is, any help would be appreciated

Thanks

The white area is supposed to match the stripe on the side of the cap, which is negative.

Thanks Jay

The more i look at it the more i shy a way from it..lol never did a solder job that small. I have a local TV repair shop near me thinking about seeing how much he would charge to solder it on
but then again no guts no glory lol

its not that hard to do, i have had to do it myself.....
just do all the soldering on the back of the motherboard, will make your life ALOT simplier

yeah i think it was you that explained in detail a few days back for a nother guy with the same promblem i printed that post up so i would have it on hand . I did try to solder to the post that were still left because my capacitor was more like pulled out , but ended up that did not work out I do know now i need a finer tip gun and smaller dia. solder to do it, and yeah it does seem like it would be easier to solder from the back side, the one thing i dont under stand is . what the copacitor is connecting to i see not traces on either side is it something in between the pcb layers?

Thanks

yeah, often there are traces on the layers between the top and bottom that are often(if not impossibly) hard to see. sometimes you can see through the first layer or so and see some of the internal traces.

you relly do need to remove the old caps "post" as you called them. (dont know the correct name myself, leads?), ill just use "posts" to keep it easy

Heat the soldering iron up, and touch (on the back of the pcb) the tip of the "post" sticking out. while you are doing that you also need to be pulling the "post" out, needle nose pliers work good for that.

Like Krieger said, the traces are thier, just hard to see.

If the new cap doesnt fit in the holes, you can always shave the "posts" down a bit to make them fit, I did that on my repair job, and it seems to be working fine.

Sorry about not replying back in the other post (just checked it and noticed i didnt)... Just give me a PM if I miss a topic that I could be helpfull with, and i'll do my best to help.

well thanks for the help Jay, after about an hour i finnally got it
done Solder job dont look like what the rest of the board does but the capacitor is holding in tight, Now we have to give it a try and hope it works , Just hope it dosent dammage my cpu if it is not right. thanks again

Went out today and picked up a 950 duron to try in this motherboard and everything seems to be working it booted up and read my cpu with no promblem now im going to get a hard drive and have everything else to put together a 4th system

:)
