who has a Volcano 7+?

I just bought one of those for my P4T-E board, and it wouldn't fit on the processor properly. The retention screws kept it from sitting flush on the processor. Be careful. I decided to put it on my KT7A board and it really is a rock solid heatsink and fan. I have the fan set to medium speed (offers-low,medium,high) and have my 1.33 Ghz processor never going above 39c(full load). Not overclocked right now. Idle is somewhere around 35c36c. Amibient temp in my house is about 71-72. I would really recommend this based on the flexibility of the fan and the performance of the Heatsink. It is also very cool looking. Beware that the Medium fan setting still offers some pretty strong noise.

Suuuweeet!
I want one...! Too bad it is so expensive, at least in Canada it is.

How does she sound on low settings...is it possible to sleep in the same room?
I figure at low I can crunch seti while away from my rig or while downloading at nite and at medium for some games or high just to show off to my friends.
Any other reactions to the Volcano 7 plus, for good or bad?

fan switch

I also heard that the Volcano 7+ does better on AMD cpu's than on Intels.

Thermaltake does sell the fan speed switch alone for $10 or $12 (US). Check it on www.thermaltake.com

Of course there are other ways to do the same thing...

Low speed is about as loud as any normal intact fan you may have. If you like to sleep with the fan on, it shouldn't be a problem.

Yep, if you are looking for good P4-478 HSF, forget it. As chop said, the stupid retention clip will PREVENT the HSF from making contact w/ the CPU. I actually tried to bend the clip as well as inserting washers but no luck!!! Can't believe this!

chop, I pasted from another thread he has the same asus board and p4 1.8 cpu as you

Yeah I am serious. My Volcano 7+ is running at 26C at idle. My Dragon Orb was at 33C idle. I dont see many better than that. You do know I said Volcano 7 plus not the regular volcano 7? ... You gonna ask me if I am serious again?

what do you think is he trying to fill people a line bs? the reason I ask is I don't know how hard the p4 is to cool.

I am not trying to feed a line of b/s to anyone. This is my temps. I am using hardware monitor to check my temp. I had no probs with this cooler. If I did, I would not recomend it to anyone else. If there is a better cooler out there I will use it. I just installed it the other day, and I havent had alot of time to test it thoughouly.

I am away from home right now, and as soon as I get home I am going to take a look at it again, and make sure it is contacting the CPU like it is supposed to. I only ran it for about 10 hours or so.

If I do find something isnt right on it, I will let everybody know. I am not affriad to look like a dumb ***. But as of yet it has impressed me.

Like I said I had no probs with instalation, everything went fine. And I did not notice any lack of contact between the heatsink and the CPU, but then again I was not really looking for it. And I had good temps so it never dawned on me to really check the contact that closely.

Like I said, I will look at it good tonight when I get home and I will let everyone know exactly what I find.
