Why are companies ditching phone support?

Security & Privacy is my goal for 2021. I want a good fast VPN, solid private secure email, and an alternative to Google search engine.

I HATE trying to communicate live through chat. I asked a few VPN companies if they had phone support and they don't. I find myself typing for 25 dang minutes where a 5 minute phone call would have done the trick. I'm so frustrated. Why? Save money?

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I have a PIA account, and I can use it, but it's still about 1/4 of what my internet speed is without it.

I tried "fastest" VPN, paid for a membership and it was crap. Deleted.

Yep. No humans=no payroll...no payroll=greater profits.

VPN is as slow as the server you want it to connect to... I use Pure VPN without issue. Never has to use customer service and do not know if they have a # or chat/email only.

Why are you so down the rabbit hole of security? Perhaps if you take a bit to reconsider actual needs versus frequency of attack vectors... you may not need to jump through all those hoops and be frustrated. It feels like overkill for most users.

If you're balls deep, make sure you're bios and Windows is updated to patch the Intel CVEs and go AMD for less attack vectors.

Also remember that at one time, early in the history of telephony, thousands of people nationwide sat at their stations and plugged in wired connectors to make the linkage happen. They all lost their jobs when switching automatically became the better, faster way to connect phone calls. This day and age finds that paying multiple people up and down the possibilities-for-help is expensive and low and behold, "press one for customer service -> press one for software support" etc. I've gone 8 deep in pressing numbers to get to someone that switched me back to another series of pressing numbers because I Chose Poorly. I'm not a big fan of this either. But I've also been on the phone with humans that didn't know what department to forward me to 'cause it wasn't in the script they were reading. Such is progress.

LinPhone is free and open source. Express BLOWS. Based out of CO but has a Britain LLC title. My favorite part of express was they monitor and then choke ANY torrenting. ****e company. Avoid at all cost.

The obvious reason why phone support is failing is that so many companies have hired gupta and friends and so it's actually hard to get any real support. Any you can understand. Coders my friend. Mars needs coders. Coders is code for any idiot who can barely type but takes directions well.
With a payed sip acct., and a sip smartphone ap, anyone can make and take calls through the sip. If both are on a sip the calls can be fully encrypted too.
There's signal and telegram but they are like an ecosystem to their own. A sip can touch the world. I'm almost at the point where a payed sip acct. looks better than the cellular nonsense I deal with now. Meaning get a smartphone wherein the sim is the sip. Skippping the verizon, att, blah blah blah nonsense altogether. I only pay about $11.50/month now so I can't complain too much. IMO, all communications should be free. Impossible when they would rather worry about what you are allowed to say or even stupider what words you can use. See my point. As long as we rely on them getting payed for OUR comms, they will continue to charge while then telling us what we are allowed to do. Funny how it works that way but that's EXACTLY how it works. Remove the money, remove any restrictions by others.
