Games are changing with the times, for good in some points and for bad in others. This is one of the reasons why so many people still play the 20yo version of World of Warcraft, they love the slow/hard pace of the game compared to the fast/easy feel of the retail. Worth the watch

"With the release of Starfield's Shattered Space DLC, this video essay will be taking a deep dive into the game, along with Bethesda's RPGs in general. We’ll explore the evolution of Bethesda’s open-world adventures, from the medieval Elder Scrolls series and the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout, to their newest sci-fi release, Starfield. Through this analysis, we’ll see what sets Bethesda RPGs apart, how Starfield measures up against classics like Skyrim and Fallout 4, and pinpoint where Starfield may have missed the mark. We’ll also delve into Todd Howard’s vision for Starfield, and talk about the future of Bethesda with the much-anticipated Elder Scrolls 6 and the potential Fallout 5. What lessons should Bethesda learn from Starfield's reception? Do you think the game can be fixed or even saved with the Shattered Space DLC? Or maybe you already enjoyed Starfield for what it was?"

Meh... I thought they were on a pretty good run. I mean it's an absolute MIRACLE that they even exist after all these years. Bethesda is, literally, from my childhood.

NOBODY lasts that long. You don't see Apogee or iD or any of those bastards still running around...

It's impossible to be around that long.

But didn't they just release a successful Dragon Age game? And isn't there supposed to be another Mass Effect coming out or something?

Plus they're wholly owned by Microsoft now and, although that could be more a curse than a blessing these days, Microsoft's bet the whole FARM on them. If for nothing else than their previous IPs.

No... I'm wholeheartedly impressed by Bethesda. They had such a loooooong run of hits.

The problem is, more than likely, after all these years their best people have either moved on or PASSED on... It can take a long time to rebuild the kind of team that's capable of creating great things.

I wouldn't expect them to ever have hit, after hit, after hit again like they did in the days of old... honestly that was a miracle to begin with...

But some lead developer with a dream... and nerves of steel... will eventually come up with a game that will bring you to tears.

You have your companies confused.

id was owned by Zenimax/Bethesda and is now owned by Microsoft due to them buying Bethesda. They released two very well reviewed Doom games over the last 9 years with a new one possibly coming out this year (Doom the Dark Ages or something).

Mass Effect/Dragon Age is Bioware, owned by EA, not Bethesda. They also made Anthem which crapped the bed.

Bethesda development studio, in this regard is speaking of Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and now Starfield.

Its also possible that people change too. I find myself no longer enjoying games 9 out of 10 times. We're getting older and younger folks don't necessarily have the same taste for games as we (used to?) do. For example, I can't stand games like PUBG or Apex Legends.

DA Veilguard is a mediocre game. It's not as bad as all YT reviewers say it is and it has it moments. But it's definitely a wasted opportunity to score a major hit.

Ah... I see. All the mergers and whatnot over the years... it's pretty EASY to get confused.

But my overall point still stands: It's insane that there even IS a Bethesda after all these years. I mean are Data East and Ravensoft still around, too?

Activision and Electronic Arts are the only developers you would reasonably expect, from the old days, to still be around (and even Activision/Blizzard got bought by Microsoft...)

I'd have thought you crazy if you told me way back in the day that Bethesda would still be around in 2025 but Tecmo wouldn't.

I made a couple hours into Starfield. Definitely my lifestyle plays a factor, I just don't have time for a game to delay gratification by 8 - 16 hours. I felt that it was okay, but eventually just that same grind of running back to town to complete a quest or talk to someone for the 11th time for no good reason. Like they keep remaking Skyrim (which was a great game but I still didn't finish the main story), so skyrim in space and skyrim apocalypse edition but it still feels the same. So it feels like I'm going back and playing a game I never finished because I had too many side quests and didn't want to advance the main quest without finishing the side quests because of FOMO but the side quests lost my interest.

I love the DOOM games, I can sit down for 15 minutes and feel a rush and be done. I also still (sheepishly) play cops and robbers (CS) because nostalgia, although I'm awful at it.

I just downloaded S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, so far its a good time, hopefully it doesn't lose me in the quest grind.
