why cant i select 1280x1024 in CS?

its just not there. i dont see why, i gots a 19" monitor with a geforce 3.

Its a limitation of the halflife engine. you see, 3+ years ago when the engine was made people didnt have all these new fangled monitors and videocards that could do those high resoultions, lol.
when HL first came out the best videocard at the time was a TNT2

but for some reason you can select 1280x960 in Quake II and half-life is much nicer graphics wisde than Quake II....

LOL, i like that.. a few friends though me the same thing when i bought the platiunm pack off ebay a few weeks ago
CS will never get old IMO. i think its gotta be one of the best online games there ever was. UT coming 2nd.

it's incredible to think a 3 year old game, not even a game,
but a mod is still the best there is!!!

i just can't wait for the new H/L engine and i was beta testing
CS 1.4 last night and it ROX!!!!!!!

Thats because the core of halflife is based on the Quake I engine. but they chopped and edited it so much its a whole new one but theres still the resoultion limit. but still you gotta remember that game is 3+ years old so when it was released only a very small percentage of the people could play on the max rez it supported. but even then the best card was a TNT2 ultra (the gefarce 1 was relased the following summer) and if you played at the max rez you would get 25fps
