K now another question, why aren't there faster DVD drives?? now heres what i think is the reason, 16x is more then enough to playback a movie? but what is people want a faster drive?

A 1x DVD spins at a faster speed than a 1x CD, so a 16x DVD probably translates into about the same rotation speed as a 52x CD, and a higher data rate, since data is packed more tightly onto a DVD than it is on a CD.

but what happens after they make the 52x dvd burner? what then? what kinda new invention is gonna come out? mini dvd disk?? minidvd burners??

about a year ago, i read something about a holographic storage medium being tested. the prototype was a 1" cube that was written onto by multiple laser all through the entire volume of the cube. the prototype held something like 100 gigs  I'll look around for the article.

Er.....remind me again why you need those speeds?
Is it to toast cds in 0.00000001 secs? or to read and mount the cd in 0.000000000000000000000023secs?

Seriously guys, you don't need anything above 20 for reading, 10 for writing and 8 for dvds.
=P

8X DVD is about 80X CDROM.
I think 4 DVD is already much.

yeah. it's like a plastic cube and the lasers change the color/composition? of it to store data. i don't know exactly how it works, i have to find the article, but i know it needs no batteries. it's like a cube cd-rw that holds 100gigs!!
