please keep the harsh language to a minimum. As for you question, something tells me that you have a program running in the backround thats messing with everything on your system. Try closing a few things in your systray and see if that helps.

sorry about the language!........but no, i dont have anything else running ...thats why i think its something to do with the actual hardware, not software.

could it be the hard disk failing?..or the memory???...u see, my mobo and CPU are quite new, so im hoping its not them

another thing to check out is your cpu temps. Make sure they aren't high. That would be anything about about 50c But to me it sounds like a software or OS problem. Did you re-install windows when you upgraded? I'm here to help, and will be here for a while, so don't fret. :)

hehe...well...my idle temp is 44 and at full load its 51 ....and i didnt re-install windows 98 SE when i upgraded...is that what it could be?...i have the drivers installed correctly though.

When I had this problem I stormed around the house for days. Finally I found out that one of my RAM chips didn't like running at pc133 settings. When I set the system clock back to 100mhz all my errors went away. Give it a try and see if it helps. Just go into your system setup and set the system clock back to 100mhz. I now have found that buying cheep RAM doesn’t save you anything. Just as a reminder I make a cool looking key chain out of the old piece of junk RAM chip. I’m not positive that it is a memory problem but it never hurts to do this simple test.

all ram is pc100mhz and no FSB settings have been touched..its all at 100mhz

You dont have to format, just boot from a floppy and run windows setup, it will install all of the new resources for the new mobo and set up the hardware accordingly. I have done it a million times and it works like a charm. Also, you may want to look into a registry cleaner after you do that because alot of the old entries from the old setup woll still be there causing probs. Good luck.

I would format your HDD and reinstall windows. back up all your data to CD-R's or something.

and in the future, do what I do. make a partition just for Windows and crap and other partitions for programs. that way if you toast windows or something you can reinstall windows and not have to reinstall all your proggies.

cheers for the help and reassurance guys...well-appreciated....im gonna re-install once i get my Maxtor 60GB HD ....a week or two to go...cant wait.....just think of all that porn!

same suggestion.....when i switch from intel to windows i had to format or else the machine wouldn't even boot

OK. Do you want to hear a sad story? I bought an ASUS A7V and built a computer from scratch (I've done this several times before). My computer did the same thing yours did. Well, I did all the troubleshooting steps including reformatting and reloading Windows from scratch. Same problem. Then I started replacing parts (bought new). By the time I was done I bought enough parts to make another computer. It turned out that the A7V Mobo was bad.....bummer! I sent it back to ASUS and got a replacement. Took 6 weeks. Now I have a kick *** backup computer overclocked 600 duron @ 1000. Any buyers?
