Ok. I used Nero6 and burned an .iso image onto the cd. It loaded but when it said where to boot from and i clicked CD, which it is on, it said it coyuldnt be docked. What does that mean? Does it hav anything to do with the file name said Suse x86? Please help!

Are you running a boot manager or something similar? I didn't get the part of it being docked. Did you just burn the .iso file to the cd, or did you burn it as an image (File, Burn Image to CD)?

Several questions...
What is the "docked" part that you spoke of? Are you sure that your BIOS is set to boot from CD before the hard drive? When you browse the CD in Windows, it shows several files and folders, correct?

Ok. Update. I tried this with mandrake nd it said it couldnt find cd-rom. I have a NEc 3250A...do i need drivers....and i couldnt find any when i looked.

Please answer my above questions so that we can help you better. If you are questioning the drive itself, make sure it can read other cds, both regular and ones that you have burned. Where did it say it couldn't find the cdrom, in the install, Windows, while booting, or somewhere else?

Ok. All i know is that only when i try suse did it say the cdrom couldnt be docked....those are the words ir said. It says it when it trys to install from the CD on both linuxe's. Im going to try and get linux exe2 capatiblilty drivers......I think thats what i need right?

So it says this during the installation of Linux, or before you get into it? You shouldn't need to do anything to get Linux to read your cdrom, unless it is SATA. What type of computer do you have? What versions of Mandrake and Suse are you trying?

I was using newest versions. I have my own pc i built. The CDROM is a NEC 3520a. Yes like it reads linux, it goes to install but when it goes to acctualy start the instalation it says it cant read cdrom.

Could it be that i burnt it wrong?

Make sure that the disk is not scratched. Also try and make sure that the cd can be read in another computer, such as one running Windows. The cd should contain several files and folders, not just one file. If you burned two discs, one each for Suse and Mandrake, then I don't think it would be the disc at fault, unless you burned onto the same cdrw.
I can't really think of anything else right now, other than checking the contents of the disc on another computer.

Well ive now know that it is the cdrom's them selves. They arent compatible with Mandrake(ive stuck with this). I tried 5 and i looked at the compatibilty list for mandrake and it doesnt list my NEC so i assume everything is incompatible...they do list what is compatible so ill go withthat.

I would think that it would at least be able to read from the CD to install if the drive is just a basic drive, which it seems to be. You can read the cds in Windows, and it shows more than one file, right?

Yea. But if it doesnt read any then yea. it doesnt show it is compatible in its list so ill just buy one that is.

I doubt most of my stuff is in any Linux compatability list. If your computer won't read it right, then I don't think its an incompatability with Linux. Most, if not all, cdrom drives work under Linux as long as it is fairly up to date and the drive is IDE. If you can download it, then you might want to try Fedora or another distro to see if it is just a problem with that distro not liking your drive. If you have another cdrom drive that you can try after you burn the cd, you might want to try it. It should work unless the drive is 24X or lower and you are using a CD-RW.
Anyways, good luck with getting it figured out and if you have more problems let us know.
